Continent: Attellaria
Capital: Teshumbai
Government: Autocracy (protectorate)
Dominant Religion: Egyptian
Typical Physiology: The typical appearance in this country is black hair, brown skin, sharp features, slim to moderately heavy build, height around average for world population.
Tesh was originally settled as a colony of Gralur, far to the west, in 670 Eighth Age. The population rebelled in 700 EA, and won its independence in 710 EA. The ruler of Tesh (which was never a large or heavily populated country) is referred to as High Priest; in a larger country that worshiped the Egyptian gods, the ruler might be referred to as the Pharaoh, a term understood to essentially mean god-king. The last High Priest died during the Tesh-Keth war; the country is now ruled by military and political forces from Kax and Keth.
Tesh is a divided protectorate. In 1141-1142, Tesh attacked Keth, and was crushed by the Keth-Kax alliance. Tesh was formerly an autocracy ruled by an emperor-priest. The country survives almost entirely on the sale and craft of rare metals and jewelry. Before the war, Tesh was known for supplying metals apparently of extra-planar origin, but none has emerged since. The son of the deceased wartime emperor, born 1139, is now a puppet ruler of this predominantly Egyptian faith people. Only the militaristic imperialists of Kax prevent the country from regaining independence, as the Keth government has long since forgiven Tesh (although this might have something to do with the fact that nearly the entire Tesh army was destroyed and most members of the ruling class executed; much of the rest of the population died in the war, also).
The southern half of the country has received virtually no aid in reconstruction, and all of the towns and villages are dying, with just a few hundred residents. The northern half of the country has been better treated by Keth, and has recovered somewhat, though the cities have only about one fifth their pre-war populations.
