Keth is one of the five ancient kingdoms of Pendria from the seventh age. It had broken down to a group of scattered towns, until 812 Eighth Age, when the towns organized and proclaimed the return of the country as a republic. Much of this growth was an influx of people from Larn, who were fleeing a civil war there. This is why the population is more or less evenly split between Finnish and Norse religions, as the immigrants were all Norse, and the original population was Finnish. This religion originally came from Lyda, earlier in the Eighth Age, around 680.
Keth is a republic, the only such country known in Pendria. The leader of the country is an elected king; traditionally, a young member of the aristocracy is elected to this position, so reigns tend to be long. There is no mechanism in the law for removal of the king. Keth has a very odd government, with a king who is elected to lead a republic. Because of this, the kings almost never are related to any previous monarch; in fact, most citizens of Keth would feel this is a terrible idea.
It consists mostly of farms and ranches, with some lumbering and trading. Keth has a mutual defense pact with Kax, which was a secret until Tesh attacked during 1141-1142. Kax's counterattack was brutal, and the war was over within months. The population of Keth is largely Norse and Finnish in religion.
Along the southern coasts, which are swamps, there is a legend that some sort of walking house, inhabited by a lich, is sometimes encountered. The good-hearted, the poor, and the weak are usually either ignored or aided; the powerful or evil are sometimes abused or killed.
