This castle on the hillside coast has an excellent view of all traffic into Toria. This may be a coincidence.
The family which rules Grendon was granted the title of Marquis by king Wulfhere in 990 E.A. Grendon at that time was a larger town, but still not big enough to be called a city, and this title was apparently granted because Grendon's military intelligence provided during Queen Matilda's rebellion was instrumental in their victory. In more recent times, Grendon's family has become well known for rubbing in the faces of the other noble families the fact that they are the only non-royals to be granted a title higher than Earl.
The Marquis is an elderly man, born in 1077, who married as a young man to Bastria Eranne MacRorie, born 1084. They had no children, and she died of sickness in 1114. Aldrich grieved for many years, but in 1135, he married again, this time to Irdamiac Atavar, born 1112. They have two sons. The elder, Volkher Grendon, born in 1137, appears to be quite personable and politically savvy, and should be a vast improvement over his father when he inherits the title. His younger brother, Wilmer Grendon, born in 1141, seems to be much like his father, and is not well liked among the nobility of the country.
In April through June of 1167, a large construction effort put up enough homes, workplaces, fields and docks for a population of about ten thousand, but as of September, they remain largely empty.
In October, a relief wagon train from Aertael was sent to the towns of Tharn to try to convince them to evacuate to Grendon ahead of an elemental invasion (though the people were told it was a virulent plague). Through some diplomacy and luck, the entire population moved to Grendon and is now settled there.
The family is known to worship the Celtic gods in general, Diancecht in particular.
