Notes and History:
In October 1166, the entire southern coast of Tharn was evacuated ahead of an invasion by earth elementals sent by Ogremoch. They have all since resettled at Grendon; the text below was left in as history.
On November 19, 1166, the southern coast of Tharn was the site of a huge battle against the earth elementals sent by Ogremoch. Thousands died here; they were burned in pyres, and buried under earthen mounds. Nobody lives along the southern coast any more.
Xoehauss was a pair of large dwellings and related support structures (stables, forge, etc.) of the Fianna of Tharn. Once, about two thousand years ago, the Tharnians were members of the army of a western nation of semi‑barbaric celtic types. They rebelled at the harsh and unjust rule of their king (whom they had sworn to defend and serve) and, rather than enter into warfare, left their country. Even the master storytellers do not know exactly which country it was. The emigrants founded their own country in Tharn, which is still ruled by the warrior clans living in Xoehauss. They are almost all Celtic in religion. The country is somewhat female dominated, in political and familial power, and about 75% of druids and magic‑users are female also.
The clans, for the most part, worship Oghma; Brigin Faelin, the leader of the head clan, is a bard of Oghma. The library/temple holds about 5000 books, 90% history, 8% technology, and 2% sage lore. 75% are written in Tharnian, 20% in common, and 5% in other languages. Of the 2000 residents, about 600 are fighters, bards, rangers, barbarians, druids, or magic‑users. There are a few clerics, and one or two cavaliers. Illusionists, monks, paladins, thieves (except for the bards) and assassins are almost unknown; certainly none live in Xoehauss.
The people of Xoehauss are very tolerant of other alignments and religions, as long as they are not too extreme. They are born fighters and most are known for holding grudges. Xoehauss is made up of ten clans, each ruled by the eldest child of the previous clan leader. It is possible to win clan leadership through challenge, but this is seldom done.
Each clan has 150‑250 members. About 1/3 of these are fighters, druids, rangers, barbarians, or the occasional cleric.
The most powerful clan is clan Faelin. Brigin Faelin, a level 14 bard of Oghma, leads the clan. This clan has many druids and many fighters, especially of middle and low levels.
Clan Darvin, the second clan, is led by a level 2 male bard. The clan is mostly fighter types. They are fanatical supporters of clan Faelin.
The third clan is clan Caerk, led by a female named Naefia Caerk, who is a level 9 druid. They support clan Faelin most of the time.
The fourth clan, Clan Killy, is led by a female level four bard named Meggan Killy. The clan strongly supports clan Faelin. It has a good number of mid‑level fighters, and mid and low‑level bards.
The leader of the fifth clan, clan MacBurne, is a male druid level 12, Eaven MacBurne. The clan is in occaisional conflice with clan Faelin. The clan has a lot of high level fighters, druids, and magic‑users.
The sixth clan, clan Durra, is led by a male level 9 bard named Baerda Mac Durra. The clan is in constant conflict with clan Faelin (Durra is a spurned suitor of Brigin; this is not common knowledge). The clan is strong is high level fighters and medium level druids.
The seventh clan, clan Morrain, is led by a level 6 female cleric Murel Morrain. The clan strongly supports clan Faelin. The clan has a lot of low‑level fighters, high‑level druids, and medium level druids.
The eighth clan is clan Trakin, led by a level 2 female cavalier named Nellea Trakin. It is in occasional conflict with clan Faelin. The clan has many mid‑level druids and low‑level magic‑users.
The ninth clan, clan Nurrin, is led by a female level 4 ranger named Asphodel Nurrin. The clan is in occaisional conflict with clan Faelin. It has lots of mid‑level to low‑ level fighters, low‑level druids, and high‑level magic‑users.
The tenth clan, clan Rowarn, is led by a level 1 female magic‑user, fanatic supporter of Clan Faelin. It has lots of mid‑level fighters, and mid‑ and low‑level druids.
** Note - in mid-October 1166, the government of Attellaria sent a relief/evacuation effort to the country to try to convince the population to relocate to Grendon. After some effort, all the people moved north in a caravan, and are now living in a new town built up around Grendon. The towns of Tharn are now occupied military camps:
Sioti - 4000 troops, commanded by Colonel Emleof, a female human fortyish, tall and very heavy; has 2 captains, 8 lieutenants and 40 NCOs.
Xoehauss - 600 troops, commanded by Captain Breraff, human female, very short and petite, young for her rank, about 25, supported by 2 lieutenants and 12 NCOs.
Iathre - 800 troops, commanded by Captain Wogned, a human male, very short, small, older about 70 or so, supported by two lieutenants and 12 NCOs.
Glaut - 800 troops, commanded by Captain Nelmeir, a human female, about 5'10", average build, around forty, supported by two lieutenants and 12 NCOs.
Each of these camps have been built up with stone battlements, stone buildings and stone animal pens, courtesy of the player character group. A cook hall was added in May 1167, and a variety of vegetables to plant were given to the cooks.
