Open Arena - Bricks 2

This is an expanded version of Deck16 from UT to OA. I used colored bricks to differentiate different zones. I didn't invest much to study and playtest this map. I added more corridors and areas to the original deck16 without really thinking on the flow or gameplay. I just wanted a larger deck16. I decided to replace the acid from UT with pure water in OA and add some items underwater. The skybox was hand drawn with purposely children like drawings. The biggest change was to remove the ceiling almost completely, making this map feel an outdoor arena. With Open Arena and Quake 3 having more jump pads than lifts I replaced the original deck16 lifts with jump pads. Quake 3 and Open Arena have an advantage over UT regarding lightmaps. I could use high resolution lightmaps and with higher color precision, which allowed for better shadows and radiosity. In a previous version the white bricks texture was a colorful stripped pattern, with alternating brick colors in a zig-zag pattern. It quickly became obvious that it was bad for gameplay because having a clean white background makes it much easier to aim at players.

Xonotic version

Same architecture and geometry. Only the items are different, but placed in the same locations. Due to rendering engine differences this version is much brighter.
