Colorado State University will host a special concert by the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition joint gold medal winner, Nobuyuki Tsujii, on Tuesday, March 12, 3:30 p.m. in the Organ Recital Hall at the University Center ...
The concert will feature Nobuyuki Tsujii playing an original piece that he wrote to memorialize the victims of the 2011 Tohoku (Great East Japan) Earthquake, tsunami, and subsequent nuclear disaster that hit Japan on March 11 two years ago.
Acclaimed for his heartfelt and inspiring performances, Nobu is also noted for what the Chicago Tribune praised as “fearless technical assurance, accuracy, and musicality…suppleness of line and lyrical grace.” Blind since birth, Nobu believes that there are no barriers in the field of music.
Performing a full concert on March 13 at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Collins, Tsujii’s performance at Colorado State will be filmed by New York City’s Peter Rosen for a documentary about the life of the artists. The performance will conclude with an audience Q&A for Nobuyuki...

Message from Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii
Last month (28 February 2013) the evening edition of the Asahi Shimbun had an obituary of pianist Mr. Van Cliburn.
Speaking of Mr. Van Cliburn, Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii (blind pianist) won in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009, the first for a Japanese. I know of such a person. (Very popular pianist).
Known through the program at that time also Tsujii, of course, I became a fan in the family.
The obituary of Mr. Cliburn mentions that Mr. Tsujii visited Mr. Cliburn last month.
And received a firm handshake-hug.
Reading the article, I was a little relieved
that he was able to say goodbye ...

Carview.Co.Jp/userid/239604/Blog/13786205/ The other day I found an interesting article about "lower noise" in the playing of NobuyukiTsujii. I think the explanation is very easy to understand. It says that the victory of Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii has to with a sound generated at the bottom of the piano. -tweet
<I looked at the article at the link, by a blogger who works in IT. It is written back in June 2009, and it is not easy to understand. The blogger started by saying that Nobu made some small mistakes in his playing and also pointed out the out of sync in the opening of the Rach 2 performance, and then went on to theorize that because Nobu has to hold his hands close to keyboard, his playing generates a sound from the lower part of the piano, which comes out sounding beautiful. The analysis is not convincing to me, but at least the blogger have taken time to look at Nobu's performances at the Cliburn. >

I listened to a concert of Nobuyuki Tsujii.
I had heard that he is at the height of popularity. I had heard that his popularity is unprecedented in Japan. It was 100 times better than I expected.
I am not joking, but 100 times, an order of magnitude 2 · · ·.
Now 24 years old, he is appraoching the zenith of his body's ability.
I enjoyed his performance through to the last piece on his program, his "Heroic Polonaize"
Standing operations at this time is to think of that could not be ashamed that I have been ashamed.<???>
My uncle was the only one standing up at the venue.
I thought he was pulling up after the end of the performance; he was crying.
There were 3 songs for encore
I think it was playing that contains the soul.
I was moved by the music for the first time.
It was good to go to listen.

His flawless and absolutely technically perfect playing, his velocity and brilliance on this instrument, the profound emotion he puts into his playing is something I will never comprehend. He is a superstar. <Some minor typos in the post have been corrected by me.>

Are the original compositions of Nobuyuki Tsujii at the level that can be called a composer? Perhaps it belongs in an elementary school sixth grader music composing contest, but, hey, I absolutely do not think it is on par in the world of classical CD.
And there have been quite a few interesting responses. Unfortunately they are written in Japanese that is hard to decipher - below I present the sentences that I think I understand:
You do not have to listen to the works of Mr. Tsujii if you feel they are unpleasant, so what's your problem?
Elementary school 6th grade student composing contest - that is a little harsh. ,,, Perhaps the CD sells on the strength of the name of Mr. Tsujii. It is not a bad thing, but is separate from it. I just would not listen to things that I dislike. Even ramen -- supposedly of the same taste -- sells better if named after some famous craftsmen or shops. If something is unpleasant, I just would not eat it.
This question reflects only envy and jealousy and inferiority complex. Undignified
Anyone can write a song.
A CD is released because there is demand. There is a calculation that the fans of pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii would certainly buy it, then it means that the CD can be released as a commercial product. There is no relationship in this case of whether the work has reached the level of the work of a professional composer. I am not a fan of his or anything. Writing your own song is a difficult thing. My short impression of his compositions is that I would not say that it is unbearable to listen to and I would not call it classical music. Only in the sense of Nobuyuki Tsujii's own songs, that's what would sell. It means nothing more than that.
Incidentally, he is a pianist, not a professional composer. He earned respect as an amateur composer. He is selling his own songs while his core business is performing Liszt and Chopin, nothing more than that. As a pianist, he is evaluated by his performance of Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninoff. It is his true value. His "original compositions" should not affect that reputation.

The other day, in the cabin
I was listening to music channels
The piano was very beautiful, flowing and easy to listen to.
I wonder to myself.
Who is that?
I was Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii.
There was also a feature of his
experience of music from childhood
I was surprised to hear the story.
"When I was small, I played in front of people
and received acclaim playing a song for the first time
by Richard Clayderman. "
Oh,,,.
Wow,,,,.
Did he lie?
Please say so!
NOOOOO!
Because he was young

I don't think I have ever mentioned here this website of the Ueno University, the university that Nobuyuki Tsujii attended (he graduated in 2011). If you wait patiently for a slide show to start showing, you will eventually see a couple of photos of Nobu with his professor Dr. Yukio Yokoyama.

... I thought of his first day on tour in Chiba, when he uncharacteristically did not start playing right away. He might have been nervous. Today he started playing immediately. Listening to it a second time, I was able to enjoy the finer nuances. The balance of the sound from the left and right hands was wonderfully exquisite. Soft sound and loud sound echoed beautifully.
The "Island of Joy" is my daughter's favorite, but it is difficult and she has not been able to play it on her own is difficult. It is a wonder that Nobu can play it so casually ...

The large hall of Suntory Hall was filled with flying colors.
Thanks to a friend I was able to secure a seat in the Pre-ordering. Mr. Tsujii, , you should be a man of music really comes overflowing that I've been travel and acutely. Mr. Tsujii's music has really become widely heard.
Because I had a seat on his backside, I could see that his back does not shake at all, but poised and stout, and his hands waste no jumping, drawing sound from the keyboard firmly. I thought this is an artist with a sense of stability.
However, there are a few songs that I think are too similar to the playing of his teacher Yukio Yokoyama, perhaps a result of his learning by ear without reading music (a limitation?).
In addition, as this is the 27th performance (out of 28), I feel that some spontaneity unique to live music is missing.
Five encore songs, including two of his own compositions.
I think this is an illustration of his own recital, which I think will continue to develop into a form. It was a recital that I feel something gifted, called talent.
<Editorial: About the similarity of Nobu's playing with Mr. Yukio Yokoyama - I cannot say much, because I have not heard the music of Mr. Yokoyama, but Nobu learns by ear from listening to cassettes, not to his teacher's playing. I do agree with the blogger's point about the loss of spontaneity with so many performances. In fact, counting his recent recitals overseas, this performance was the 30th, with 9 more to go in Japan and 5 more in the U.S.!>

A good holiday
The other day, I got a break on Sunday, and I went to a piano concert of Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii...
I was able to listen for the first time in two years.
Looking at the figure happily playing the piano made me smile.
I almost never listen to classic, but I like the Chopin of Mr. Tsujii the most. Suddenly, I remembered the words of Mr. Tsujii (in response to a controversial question).
He is born blind, what would he most want to see if he could see?
His answer to the question: "I want to take a look of the faces of my parents."
I remember that it made me think of my loving parents.
It is natural for us to see only what is in front of our eyes
Mr. Tsujii senses a lot of things that are transmitted to his heart
Without being able to see, he is in contact with people through pure feeling.
And so, he is able to connect with the hearts of those who listen to the sound of his piano playing.
I think it is a really great talent.
Now, I want to thank some people the most,

I think I want to go to a concert of Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii to be held in Iwaki on June 14,
It seems very difficult to obtain tickets.
There does not seem any pre-order (I am not sure; I looked once)
In addition, there is no over-the-counter sales at the venue on the release date(Telephone, Internet by appointment only)
Then there are ticket centers and convenience stores.
TV Fukushima, the organizer, only provide telephone booking.
Which method is the most effective?
I think that I can use the computer with faster typing, but my computer is slow.
However, if it would help with the reservation online, then I think I am ready to add memory.
I am also thinking of lining up at a convenience store,
I have never had such a difficult experience of trying to get tickets.
I want to let my daughter hear the music, as she is working hard every day to practice on the piano.
Thank you for the advice.

About two years ago,I heard Nobuyuki Tsujii's nationwide concert tour was opening here. I bought a ticket and I came to the concert with a group is from Shizuoka on a sightseeing bus tour.
Even now, once or twice a month, classical music concert sponsored by Lilith appears to be being held,
I come to listen to the performances; the entrance fee is not very high.

Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii concert
Today, I went to a concert of Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii! He played La Campanella as an encore! I had watched that on video, but wanted to see it live by all means, and he played it so well.
Then, "Still, we live," was very good; women were near tears. "Farewell" song was also good. He played three or four times an encore, I was very satisfied ! It was good to hear the music of the classical piano, rather from studying. Oh, that was a good day

Tchaikovsky with Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra
I was on a trip to Dallas, Texas, and was looking for a trip a little south for warmer weather over the weekend, when I learned about Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii performing with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. I made the decision in Dallas to go.
Mr. Tsujii won a gold medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009, which was held in Fort Worth, Texas. He was coming back to the same venue for the first time after many years. The web site of the Symphony Orchestra says "Welcome back Nobu".
At the venue. there were figures of Japanese here and there.
The appearance of Mr. Tsujii was greeted by some audience with a standing ovation. It was a very warm atmosphere.
The playing was very powerful, there was standing ovation and loud applause when the first movement was finished.
Then, after the second and third movements, my husband said, "Wow, impressed".
It was my first time to listen to a concerto performed with a conductor. I enjoyed it.
At the end of the performance, Mr. Tsujii was escorted on the arm of the conductor, and returned to stage to greet us many times. He also gave us an encore.
After the break it was Schubert's Symphony No. 9. But it looked like many in the audience had gone home. It seems there were very many people who came to listen to the playing of Mr. Tsujii.

Standing ovations for Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii in St. Petersburg February 4, 2013
... Other than the concerto, the track that I looked forward to the most is the first encore -- Rachmaninov's Prelude in G# minor, Op. 32 No 12. I heard Nobu play this piece as encore at the Royal Festival Hall in London last May, and the memory of it lingered. This short piece is, to my ears, hauntingly beautiful, and it is played here by Nobu with just the right touch and sensibility.
Kudos to EuroArts Music for making this DVD available so readily all over the world, except -- ironically -- in Nobu's native Japan, perhaps for contractual reasons. As a Nobu fan who has spent a fortune ordering CDs and DVDs from Japan, this is a happy turn of event.

But it was all overshadowed by one of the performers and pieces we heard today.
The featured work was the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Major. This is a piece that I remember falling in love with at a very young age. The 3rd movement is one of my all time favorite things to hear, and I specifically remember hearing my friend, Dmitrius, from Greece, playing it in a recital at the Moscow Conservatory when I lived in Russia. It also tends to wind up on my running playlists a lot. Needless to say, I was excited to hear it. After I shushed the ladies behind me, Miguel <conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya> brought out the pianist and we realized that he was holding his hand and placed it onto the piano. Wait a minute!! ... Tsujii was back in Bass Performance Hall Friday night, performing the Tchaikovsky First Piano Concerto with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Again, the rock-solid technique and confidence impressed. But there was little of the expressive nuance that distinguishes a great performance from an accomplished one.

Amazing violin of the splendor of India,
And, in the second half, the performance of Japanese pianist Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii charmed the audience. He uses all of his petite body to bring out tones that drew tears. The audience and the orchestra applauded as he bowed down deeply.
I applauded heartily.

■ The great success of Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii, concert performances in Seattle
On the 22nd, Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii (24) -- a representative of Japan and one of the young pianists -- held a recital at Benaroya Hall in downtown Seattle. He played for about 2 hours the music of Debussy and Chopin to a full-house crowd ...
In addition, the fifth year of "Celebrate Asia" to honor Asian music was held at Benaroya Hall on the 28th. Musicians of Asian descent, including Mr. Tsujii, appeared in the event. Mr. Tsujii gave a powerful and passionate performance with the Seattle Symphony of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. The tone was really delicate. The venue was filled with loud applause from the moment he finished. Mr. Tsujii and conductor Mr. Stilian Kirofu, an assistant conductor of the Seattle Symphony, hugged each other tightly. They re-appeared on stage many times in response to ringing applause. Then, the crowd was again rewarded with an encore: Liszt's "La Campanella"...

Being With Nobuyuki Tsujii, a Genius Blind Pianist
He was one of the 2 top Gold winners of the last year’s 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition beating 350 of the best pianists from all over the world. I helped him and her mother initially with the translation.
My husband & I went to see and hear Nobu perform a recital at the beautiful Old Bedford School the night before my leaving for Tokyo. He was absolutely fabulous. Just think about the fact that he has never seen his mother’s face, the keyboard nor anything else which we take for granted every day! He “saw” us through our voice and the gesture when we visited. Our problems shrink when you think about Nobuyuki.

Performance of Mr. Tsujii shook Seattle this day.
I have been immersed in the afterglow of the concert that ended a few hours ago. Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto # 1 by Nobuyuki Tsujii. Not a few people were in tears listening to the music. Many were holding their tears with handkerchieves, too.
Before the concert, I had heard that there would be no encore tonight due to a limit of time. But the passion of the audience brought him back, and Mr. Tsujii sat in front of the piano again. He began to play the La Campanella by Franz Listz. ...

Concert
Last night I went to a concert entitled "Celebrate Asia." The program includes the works using the rhythm of West Asian composers (including Debyushi). There was also a work using Japanese shakuhachi <a wind instrument>. After the intermission, Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii, as a representative of Japan, showcased Tchaikovsky's Piano concerto no, 1. After an absence of youthful performances, the performance was full of fun. Encore la Campanella ( Liszt's transcription of Caprice of Paganini, from violin to piano ). He received a standing ovation from the entire audience. Barrage of fuss, "Bravo", and whistles. It was brilliant. I think he is one of the few happy men who make life "whatever you want it to be." ...

<the Seattke Times> review is, I felt, constructive. (3) music and personality touch people's heart. Nobu has both, but many good pianists don't
have both, so his career will be long lasting. (4) As an Asian, I am so proud of him.

I was overwhelmed: Nobuyuki Tsujii's recital
Tonight was the recital of pianist Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii . Nordstrom Hall was sold out.
Debussy the first half , Chopin in the second half. I enjoyed Mr. Tsujii's original songs at encore. Friends said, "It is his mind revealed" ... Exactly. One song after another tugs at your heart; I felt that the audience was attracted instinctively. This oneness with the audience is a unique thrill of live performances.
By the way, coming back to the house, I looked up Mr. Tsujii's official website and saw photos of gorgeous stages, contrary to that of a hard schedule. Lives of people who are active in the world are not all sweet as it seems.
Please be careful in the body please. He will appear in "Celebrate Asia" on Sunday as well, I'm looking forward to it now.
