On November 20, 2012, Nobuyuki Tsujii made his 12th stop on his 2012/13 Japan Tour, at Tochigi 栃木. This is the hometown of a lady in Japan who works with Nobu to prepare him for his performances. She is one of the people who transcribes music scores to audio tapes for Nobu, and she works with him on the piano.
In her blog, this lady writes frequently about Nobu, with great humor and honesty.
On November 20, 2012, Nobu's 2012/13 tour stopped at Tochigi 栃木, where this lady lives. She looked forward to it, and made this posting afterward. I was especially interested in her comments about Nobu's piano techniques.
I was not able to access this website for many days after the concert, because of a service outage. But on November 26 the site came back.
The English translation of the text is presented below. Please scroll down for the original Japanese text. In her blog this lady refers to Nobu as のぶりん, Nobu kun (young Mr. Nobu -- the Japanese consider it rude to refer to someone by name only).
This photo appears in the blog post, and is shown here via Internet link.
This was five days ago...
Tuesday 11/20
Nobu-kun kindly played at Utsunomiya for the first time
As to be expected, tickets sold out on the same day
and there was quite a buzz preceding the concert.
Everyone was looking forward to the performance.
Discussion of the repertoire on the program is beyond the scope of this posting <this lady helped to choose the "songs" on the program>
I like the playing of Nobu-kun.
First of all ... the beauty of "p" and "pp" <"soft" and "softer" in piano playing>
a weak sound that disappears gradually.
This is a superb skill that not anyone can do, let alone on stage.
And, it stands out clearly within the contour.
Moreover, there is the comfortable tempo and flow.
Most of all, I have to say ...
The trilling was done extremely well
Triple trilling on both hands is impossible to synchronize;
This is really amazing.
A lady who was sitting behind me
exclaimed "wow" after each song :-)
Especially after the Heroic Polonaise, and after the encores, there were "Bravo"s.
During the encores, there were many people who were suppressing their tears with a handkerchief.
The "Revolution" was requested by me :-)
I will say without hesitation that
I love the "Revolution" of Nobu-kun.
We practiced it during summer.
I also recently listened to him up close in Karuizawa <where Nobu held a summer concert in August>; I wanted to hear it in a concert,
and so I requested it for the recital on this day.
I saw many colleagues, acquaintances, and students <at the venue> and everyone was leaning forward when the first chord of "Revolution" sounded.
Visiting backstage after the concert, I had to join the long line of people:-)
There were lots of shaking hands and photo taking; very impressed.
I got to shake the hand of the student with whom I played the piano in the house :-)
I say :-) :-)
I honestly think that he will want to come back to perform in Utsunomiya.
Thank you for the inspiration.
