Nobuyuki & Ashkenazy 2013 Japan Tour

Memory of a life time - I was fortunate to get to attend three concerts in Japan on the Nobuyuki & Ashkenazy 2013 Japan Tour.

September 17 - September 29, 2013: Nobuyuki Tsujii toured Japan with all-time great pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy, performing with the Japanese Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa.

There were 11 stops. All 11 stops were declared SOLD OUT.

I had the pleasure of being in the concert hall for three of those stops. (Please see In the land of Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii 辻井伸行さん )

This is not the first time that Nobu and Ashkenazy & OEK perform in Japan; Nobu performed Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Maestro Ashkenazy and the OEK in June 2010 - as this poster shows and this article describes.

Also, Japanese Nobu fans informed me that Nobu has performed each of these works before.

- Some years ago, Nobu stepped in to substitute for Mr. Yukio Yokoyama (his university professor whom we saw in the Cliburn Competition video) at a Valentine Day concert, and Nobu "gave a superb performance even though he had not practiced that concerto for about a year." Brief footage of that performance has been shown on some TV specials about Nobu
