A batch of Instagram postings, some with great comments, showed up on Statigram, all from Nobu's recent 2013 South-East Asia Tour

Posting: http://statigr.am/p/486142268423402476_279802939

Comments: "Nobuyuki Tsujii played an amazing concert. Blind yes, but supremely confident and assured in his playing. Being blind will have augmented his hearing, and it showed. Supreme voicing in the thickest of textures. Go and hear him of you get the chance. Stunning. And 5 encores including a jaw-dropping Campanella and a Chopin 10/12 up there with the best! Just stunning! "

" he's the real deal.  Blind or not, he's truly amazing.  I'm hoping he comes back here for a concerto and another recital."

Nobuyuki Tsujii visit Longshan Temple, consulted palmist

The day before yesterday,  Japanese genius pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii, completely blind since childhood, visited the Longshan Temple in Wanhua to touch, smell and imagine.

He paid homage to the Goddess of Health, giving thanks for being born in such a good family, whose parents never gave up on him because of his blindness, but let him learn the piano and now he is touring the world.

Tsujii also went to a palmist, where the numerology teacher said he will prosper in business, but  he is more concerned about "is there a chance of a girlfriend"? When getting "yes" answer,  he seems quite happy.  Yesterday Tsujii performed for 30 fans at a Music seminar, performing music that mesmerize  the attendees.

Nobuyuki Tsujii visited Longshan Temple, gave thanks to Goddess for his good mother

Author: Hsu Yung Yung ╱ Taipei | Electronic China Times

China Times [Xu Yung Yung ╱ Taipei】

Japanese blind pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii, in Taiwan to perform, visited  the Longshan Temple on the 27th to worship.  Clasping his hands, he gave thanks to the Goddess for blessing him with a good family.  He was born sightless because of the small eye syndrome, but the mother went to great details in instructing him, taking him to  exhibitions,  fireworks, skiing; letting him feel "book covers", and finding him a piano teacher Mr. Masahiro  Kawakami.  The teacher recorded music scores on tapes, with notes for left and right hands recorded separately, for him to learn the compositions, opening a road to music for him.

He composed music for the film "God's Medical Chart".  He met <Taiwan blind pianist> Huang Yu Xiang <who starred in a Taiwanese feature film "backlit fly"> in Taiwan last year, but not this time since Huang is in Europe.

Last night, he was reunited with his fans, and spoke about his visit to Taiwan last year, when he played Beethoven's Piano Sonata "Tempest".  The result: a typhoon. A really interesting coincidence.

(Nobuyuki Tsujii   Music Exchange club)

with photo of Nobu seated with attendees marked with a date stamp of June 28, 2013 and a "thumbs-up" icon.

nice weekend♪

This evening I attended a music exchange featuring Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii.

Nobuyuki Tsujii began with two Chopin works, one of which is the Grande Waltz Brilliant (big heart).   Nobuyuki Tsujii cannot see, but his piano playing is really appealing.

For his new album he chose Chopin, whose works I love. In his music I could hear the rich and diverse (very layered) tone, but also a lot of strength.   Although some of his works may sound sad, from missing his  beloved homeland of Poland.

The year, he co-starred with ATSUSHI on a single recording "Still we live".

This song was composed by Nobuyuki after the 311 earthquake.  At the time, he wondered what he could do for Japan, but, because of his handicap, what he can do is very limited.  As a musician, he hoped to use music to encourage everyone, so  he wrote this song.  But it was his hope to find someone to fill it with lyrics, and there ensued a chance encounter with EXILE vocalist ATSUHI, and his wish was filfilled.

At the end, he played "Still we live" and a rendition of the well-known Chinese music "Jasmine"!

At today's event, some fans asked him if he ever feel it very hard to perform as a painist and want to give up?

He replied: "There are times when practicing is really hard, but I have a big passion for music, which overcome these feelings of difficulty.   He is very happy to play the piano and cannot think of ever giving up."

This sentence moved me deeply.  We should aways keep in mind and do not forget our passion.  We should underestimate the energy in our body, because our share of good positive energy can absolutely infect people around us!

Come join us!!

This is my good-night song to everyone.

Good night <in Japanese and then in Chinese>

Recital at the Esplanade Concert Hall.

In concert in Singapore for the first time, this will be the last concert of the program of Debussy and Chopin, which began in the fall of last year.

The packed audience listened to me intently and so quietly, I was impressed with the concentration and the enthusiastic cheers and applause at the end of the concert playing.

Encores:

La Campanella (Liszt)

Still, we live on (self-made)

Etude of Revolution (Chopin)

Nocturne No. 8 (Chopin)

Rigoletto-Paraphrase (Liszt)

The exterior appearance of the  Esplanade is similar  to the  fruit, and so it is  nicknamed"Dorian".

There is an overhead screen on the back of the stage during performance.

Nobu-lity, the concert name, is a combination of the words obtained Nobility and Nobu, according to organizers of the concert.

From Johor of Malaysia, about 100 people, young people who are studying piano, visited me in matching T-shirt.

Comment posted on this site, from Rio:

I attended Nobu's concert in Singapore yesterday night and was so enthralled by his impressive and emotional playing, especially loving his varied tone colours and beautiful touch on the keys.

As an occasional concert-goer myself, Nobu's performance last night was really the best concert I've ever attended. Anyone could tell his magnificent technique from watching videos online etc, but hearing him live is truly an experience one could never forget. Particularly during his encore piece - Still, we live on, I could feel the sincerity and raw emotions brimming from his music, the personal approach he had towards the piece brought me to tears. It was so, beautiful.

Undoubtedly it left a huge impact on me and after reading an article on our local newspaper about him, I was absolutely propelled to learn more about this purely amazing pianist of our time.

... I really wish to share Nobu's fascinating talent and enriching music with all my friends

Last night, we were at a concert of Nobuyuki Tsujii, who is a pianist with blindness

Concert tickets his, seems popular enough to become sold out immediately,  Mr. E-san helped to ecure a ticket for a seat fifth from the front  about 4 months ago.

From the age of five, I have been taking piano lessons for decade, but I was a hopelessly lazy student who did not practice at all  (laughs), I did not progress at all.  But I do like listening to the piano playing , both classic and jazz..

So, I took up the offer of Mr. E immediately when I learned about the concert! I was looking forward to this day to come.

There was a large congestion on ECP, slowing down from Keppel Road, we rushed via detour, arriving at the venue about 15 minutes late . Crying.

We had to wait outside until the end of a work.   Meanwhile, we watched from a screen.  After a while, the staff allowed us to enter the hall.

Even disregarding the barrier of his blindness, I was impressed by the great performance!

Five encores were played, including "La Campanella" and, as expected, his own  "Still, we live on".

My partner is not interested in classical music at all.  While we waited for a taxi,  (s)he said, jokingly, "Oh , I forgot my ear plugs".  But (s)he seems to have been moved by this performance.

At the venue, about 20 people, students and acquaintances, came to greet me.  Somehow there was an atmosphere of a party with relatives.

Everyone seemed to have been impressed with his playing.

In a Wikipedia article, it says his hobbies are swimming, skiing, skating, climbing, hiking, and karaoke.  It seems that he has overcome his handicap to try everything.

His delicate playing rejuvenated  my weary body.

Mr. Nobuyuki Tsujii concert in Singapore

2013 - June 26

Since he won the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, I have become a fan.

In 2009, I saw a triumphant performances of his at Shibuya's Orchard Hall, after getting a ticket the hard way.  It was really hard work.

Although I had the opportunity to listen to him live again in Osaka last year(Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2), I could not suppress the thought that I want to listen more and more because he was playing only the third movement.

I never though tthat it is possible to listen to him in Singapore! !

And with great joy I went to the Esplanade Hall with my husband after work.

Program was in two parts, first Debussy, then Chopin.

As they are both beautiful and friendly music, even though I am not familiar with piano, I was able to enjoy the program.

His playing is strong, yet soft and delicate, it was a great performance, with brilliant sound.

Oh joy.

First  encore was famous classic work "La Campanella"

Words cannot be found to express how amazing it was, but it was an amazing performance.

The second song, original music he composed for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake.  A lady seated near me was heard crying.

I love Chopin.  At one time we worn out a Horowitz CD from repeated listening.

And I wanted to listen to any of the Etudes, come on, come on I thought,

The third encore was "Etude of Revolution".

Yahoo!

There are many favorite classic song, many Chopin, my greed to want to listen to more and more could no longer be suppressed.

I wonder I wonder great if he would play surely a Beethoven Sonata.

Applause did not stop ringing, and then he played for  encore of two more songs,

The happy time came to an end.

Although I went for the first time Esplanade Hall,

It was a good concert hall well, because of the grand size is and audio.

The website of the place is http://www.sistic.com.sg/

We would like to try to buy tickets again.

In any case, I was able to spend a happy time today.

Sweet dreams are likely.

After Vietnam, Nobu should be heading to Singapore for his sold-out debut recital at the Esplanade concert hall on June 25.  Unfortunately, he will be flying into record air pollution in Singapore, caused by forest fires in neighboring Indonesia.  Take care, Mr. Tsujii, wear a face mask and stay indoors!

 NOBUYUKI TSUJII

LIVE AT CARNEGIE HALL

EuroArts DVD 2059088 / *****

The young Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii, blind from birth, was already a celebrity in Japan before he shared First Prize at the 2009 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. After that, he became a universal icon. This video recording of his Carnegie Hall début on 10 November 2011 showed that his victory was no fluke, a genuine and prodigious talent totally beyond doubt. He learnt his music by ear, with each work painstakingly pieced together with the help of teachers and an instinctual grasp of diverse musical idioms. There is no performance in his recital that does not sound convincing.

One suspends belief on witnessing the opening piece, Improvisation & Fugue by the American John Musto, specially commissioned for the competition. His mastery of its seemingly atonal themes and jazzy riffs is a feat that demands repeated viewing. The Beethoven Tempest Sonata (Op.31 No.2) that follows possesses the requisite drama and fire, while he tosses off the technicalities of Liszt’s Un Sospiro and Rigoletto Paraphrase with the greatest of ease. That his view of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition is more characterised and trenchant than many sighted pianists is also significant. There are three encores which reveal a more mellow and sentimental side to his artistry. If this DVD does not inspire you or warm your heart, nothing will.

Nobu's piano recital at Esplanade Concert Hall on Tuesday (25 June) has been sold out.

And I was reminded of this 2009 blog post on the Straits Time, "Tsujii’s superhuman victory ", one of the best articles that have been written about Nobu's Cliburn victory.

June 21/22 Nobu posted recital reports of his two Vietnam concerts, with beautiful photos such as the one below, and lists of encores.

Concert of Nobuyuki Tsujii, which was held at the Opera House.

I was able to go after giving up. Thank you all!

Despite the free tickets

there were scalpers in front of the Opera House on that day.

Classical concerts in Hanoi normally cannot be enjoyed without the interruption of cell phone rings.

But  this concert was different - I only heard a little of that.

Perhaps people were fascinated by the performance of Mr. Tsujii.

It was a great concert that I could not express in words.

I am still immersed in the afterglow.

I was seated in front of the piano, and was surprised how fast the time went.

And, I forgot about the fact that he is blind

Although it was just him playing the piano solo,

it seemed to have sounded like a polyphonic of notes <like an orchestra>

Then, when it was over, he stood up and, with a smile, he bowed.  It was deeply impressive..

At the end of the concert, he spoke in English to express thanks for the earthquake assistance .

If nothing else, I was impressed  by his personality as well.

I would rush to see his performance in Ho Chi Minh City.

Nobuyuki Tsujii  caused "Tremors" in Viet Nam

Nobuyuki Tsujii: I heard the emotion from the audience

Nobuyuki Tsujii - The miracle of Japan

During a long intermission, the main hall of the Opera House was buzzing. Vietnamese pianists and gossipers gathered to express their admiration.

"He can play as if he had hundreds of eyes" (People's Artist Tran Thu Ha, former director of the National Conservatory of Music)

"In hundred of years no one played like that ... an artist for all genres. " (Dr. Ta Quang Dong).

"Squeaky clean! Not even a small error.  His music is supernatural." (pianist Nguyen Huy Phuong, Head of the Department Cushion - Orchestra National Music Academy).

Nobuyuki Tsujii performing at Hanoi Opera House on June 19

Happiness! It's probably common sense for all to hear Nobuyuki Tsujii play on June 19. It combines everything ever mentioned by Van Cliburn: the feeling of being healed and healing is feeling with his hands reach the highest realms - the holy spirit.

American conductor James Conlon - the conductor for Tsujii when he played Rachmaninov's Concerto No. 2 at the Van Cliburn Competition  said so. Tsujii leaned forward, he shared through an interpreter: "Very nice. We know how to summarize the meaning of the piece, which I can understand exactly what he wants to talk about feelings. And I'm very happy. "

The first night's performance in VN Tsujii, beaming, opened with works by Debussy, not easy for the inexperienced audience. Debussy was a dramatic author. His music is often evocative, with not fully developed themes, creating forms in the moment, sometimes like a mirage.

In the suite Arabesques and Bergamansque, Tsujii started at a moderate pace, with impressive clarity of  notes and dexterity of fingers.

Many veteran pianist play Debussy dryly, not being able to create "water" in his music. But that is not Nobuyuki - the 25 years old man is brilliant, with innate musicality and technical balance on both hands. He recreated the nature of Debussy's music perfectly and made a difference in the specification. In the "Estampes", Tsujii continued very strongly,  handling with ease the difficult images of temples, night at Grenade, the gardens in the rain.

Going to the L'isle Joyeuse (happiness island), the sophistication, speed, strength and harmony made the audience totally "broke down". Applause rang nonstop as the young artist stood up.  It was a complete performance of outstanding balance between the loud and lively, with a lower tone and small claws(?)  on the video above.

Nobuyuki Tsujii, Vietnam, Japan

The talented young artist always bows at the audience, as befitting the spirit of the Japanese

The audience was anxious for part 2, because Chopin is really the strength of Tsujii. The Valse No. 1 finish with even greater applause than "happy island". When Tsujii raised his hands from the keys, something unprecedented happened. In 1/100 seconds, the applause exploded, the space suddenly became silent as if someone cut it with a fine cross sword..

The crowd waited for his next piece. Silent, and seriousness.

Towards the end, the love became passionate for Tsujii. Perhaps it was only when he could not think of anything new that prevented the audience from standing up, clapping or whistling.  Tsujii played 2 more songs composed by himelf - beautifully lyrical works in tribute to victims of the earthquake of the 2011 tsunami in Japan.

It's hard to explain how Nobuyuki could play like that.  Practice every day? The absolute purity when approaching a music of the soul and a life devoted to nothing but music? Moderate exercise harmonious way, but develop independent skills of both hands? The ability to perceive music as an innate nature? ...

But there is no mistaking that the presence of Nobuyuki Tsujii is a precious gift for those blessed with eyes to see and ears to hear. As conductor John Giordano said: "Only a few people have such capabilities. I think he has the potential to reach the highest peaks in the music."

A posting from someone who was at the June 21 concert - a big thank-you to him!

"SUCH A LOVELY NIGHT!! I'm really so happy to see him in real life after all those videos I watched on Youtube! His music is flowing and full of emotion. I brought my family with me and my brother starts falling in love with classical music. Tsujii san played Debussy's, which I don't really listen to, and Chopin's pieces. I really enjoyed how he played Brilliant Waltz no.1 op.18 and Scherzo no.2 op 31. However, I was hoping he's gonna play some Liszt's, but he played one Chopin's piece and his composition for the Japanese tsunami. However, one sad thing is that there are many music students who couldn't get a chance to see such a great performance like this. One girl I met, who saw me holding 5 tickets for my family, was begging me in tears (literally) for one ticket to get in, but finally they didn't let her in with us. I also saw some music friends of mine standing outside of the conservatory looking for a ticket as they had submitted the form online but couldn't get one either...

Great performance anyway Looking forward to seeing him again on TV. I'll try to get the TV recording from the broadcaster and upload on youtube
