Surrealism is a cultural movement that started in 1917 and is best known for its visual artworks and writings. Artists painted...illogical scenes... creating strange creatures from everyday objects... Its aim was...to "resolve the ...contradictory conditions of dream and reality into an absolute reality, a super-reality", or surreality.
Works of surrealism feature the element of surprise and unexpected juxtapositions.
Surrealism developed ... during World War I. The most important center of the movement was Paris, France. From the 1920s onward, the movement spread around the globe, impacting the visual arts, literature, film, and music...

You should NOT do CAREFUL & DETAILED drawings. You are simply planning the composition of your final Surreal Environment that you will later do in Photopea. Goals for the thumbnail sketches are for you to:
Explore page orientation (vertical & horizontal)
Choose what you will include
Plan placement and size
Save the details for later. No shading!
In class (or at home) lightly plan out 4 different ideas for your Surreal Environment in Photopea.
Review what you wrote in response to the last question on the Surreal Art Treasure Hunt form.
Look at the artwork again. Feel free to look at more Surreal art on the Internet
Gather supplies:
Lightly draw or trace 4 rectangles on your paper. (If you want to work larger you can use more than one paper)
Review the goals again in section 5 if needed.
Write down the surreal goals you are exploring on the paper
Sketch out 4 different ideas. Be sure to explore both horizontal and vertical page orientations.
Place your drawing on a flat surface where there is plenty of light
2. Open your smartphone camera app
3. Position the camera viewfinder so that your drawing fills the rectangle nicely
4. If there are shadows, reposition your drawing and try from a different angle
4. Use the Google Classroom app to submit your drawing to this assignment posting
