You will add color later
If you didn't plan for an environment in your thumbnail sketch, you should add one in. This will add detail and depth to your drawing.
You can start by adding a HORIZON LINE. Add more details and you've got an environment! (See left)
Be sure to keep in mind that you will be adding your Title, Logo, and Subtitle and that you can overlap!
Work in SEPARATE layer(s) and add color
You can start be adding a background color ad a solid color or gradient.
If you have CLOSED shapes in your LINE DRAWING, you can make SELECTIONS with the MAGIC WAND tool and then quickly use the PAINT BUCKET or GRADIENT tool to QUICKLY FILL in with COLOR
Use your color theory learning to create CONTRAST & UNITY
Review Unity and Contrast of Color and consider using it in your cover.
You can create UNITY with a MONOCHROMATIC color scheme
You can also use ANALOGOUS colors to create UNITY and make things blend together.
You can create CONTRAST with COMPLEMENTARY colors.
Ask for help if it feels like it is taking a long time.
There are many great resources online with tips on how to make your type look and function better.
Here's a Link to a good one.
Take extra time to review the section about spacing (see left).
I like to recommend it as CREATING BORDERS of space around your text
Each line of text is in a separate text layer for easy transforming!
CHECK out the warp feature in the OPTIONS BAR
TIPS for TEXT
Choose a font that is easy to read
Don't use more than 3 different fonts in your whole cover. 2 different fonts is often best.
When possible, scale graphics and text so that they are the same width.
TIP for MULTIPLE lines of TEXT: Make separate Type layers and transform them individually.
Ask for help!
TIPS for SHAPES
Use shape tools!
Edit Fill, Stroke Color and Stroke Thickness of already drawn shapes:
Have both the shape layer and the shape tool selected
Change the settings in the options bar as needed
Rasterize and erase parts of shapes if you want to!
About Rasterizing
Type layers and Shape tool layers are vector graphics. You can convert them into pixels by rasterizing them.
Layer > Rasterize.Once rasterized, you can edit the layers with all the Photopea tools like the Eraser, Lasso, Brush, etc.
You can make your lettering look 3D with the Bevel and Emboss layer style option.
