SWBAT:
1...explain WHAT the art element VALUE is and HOW artists create different values of one color
2...ALIGN & DISTRIBUTE 7 shapes on a horizontal axis for a Value Scale drawing
3...use the EYEDROPPER to fill each shape with a different value
4...create a TEXT PATHS for their NAMES
1. The two adjectives that can be used to describe VALUE are LIGHT and DARK
2. Add BLACK to a color to make it DARKER = SHADES Add WHITE to a color to make it LIGHTER = TINTS
3. Value can help artists be more successful in making specific images or text STAND OUT or BLEND IN.
Value can also help artists create specific MOODS.
Create Different Values with Paint
1. Open Your Color Page File
2. Copy one of your symmetrical shapes until you have a total of 7
3. Select the 7 Shapes
4. Open the Align Palette (Window > Align)
5. Click on an Align Button to align the shapes on a horizontal
6. Click on a Distribute Button to distribute the shapes evenly
7. GROUP the shapes (Object > Group or Command G)
If you don't have any intricate & symmetrical shapes, please create a value scale anyway.
You can use a simple shape like a circle or a square.
Swap the simple shape with an intricate symmetrical one later when you are caught up with your work so you can get full credit.
1. Use the Direct Select Tool to Select the shape you want to change color.
2. Select the Eyedropper Tool
3. Click on the color you want on Ms. Hooker's Color Wheel.

Shortcut
Switch back-and-forth from eyedropper to Direct Select Tool: Hold the Command Key
1. Select the TYPE TOOL
2. In the CONTROL BAR choose MYRIAD PRO for FONT and 12 PT for SIZE.
3. CLICK on your ARTBOARD without dragging to create a TEXT PATH. (Dragging will create a text frame).
4. Type in your name.
• First name first!
• Mixed case
5. Use the SELECTION tool to drag the text path away
from your art to the LOWER RIGHT corner of your dartboard
1. TOO HARD? Use a combination of simple and intricate shapes or just simple shapes.
2. NEED to CATCH UP QUICK? Try just 1 symmetrical shape so you can move ahead to next lesson on time.
