Make INTRICATE (detailed) shapes out of simple shapes with the PATHFINDER Panel
1. Name all files the following way: PROJECT NAME (space) LAST NAME (space) FIRST NAME (dot) FILE EXTENSION
Example: Fantasy Scape Hooker Martina.ai
A file extension consists of 2 - 4 letters at the end of a file name directly following a period.
Examples of file extensions are
.PS
.JPG
.DOCX
A file extension indicates which program can be used to open / edit a file
1. Draw a series of circles and position them so they are overlapping
2. Open the Pathfinder Palette (Window > Pathfinder)
3. Click outside the shapes and then drag over and all the shapes to make a Lasso Selection.
OR
Shift click on each shape to select all of them
• Two Techniques for selecting multiple shapes:
• Lasso Selection: Click and drag over shapes
• Shift Click: Hold shift and click on each shape
4. Click on the FIRST Pathfinder option in the Pathfinder Palette to combine the shapes into one new one.
5. Undo it (EDIT > Undo) if it doesn't look right and try again

.• Open the Pathfinder Panel from the Window Menu. Use Pathfinder to combine and subtract shape to make new intricate shapes.
1. Draw a series of rectangles for the tree trunk and branches
2. Rotate the branches as shown to the left.
3. Go to the Select Menu and choose Select All
(Command A)
4. Shift click on the Tree Top to deselect it.
5. Use the Pathfinder Palette to combine all the tree trunk shapes
6. Edit > Undo (Command Z) if you made a mistake
After completing the Pathfinder steps, how many shapes should you have?
How could you use the Pathfinder Palette to draw an arrow?
1. Draw 2 circles and position them so they are overlapping
2. Open the Pathfinder Palette (Window > Pathfinder)
3. Select the shapes
4. Click on the SECOND Pathfinder option in the Pathfinder Palette.
5. Undo it (EDIT > Undo) if it doesn't look right and try again
1. Look at your Fantasy Scape
2. What could you add to it to give it more detail and make it more interesting. You could add something to make it funny! Or add something(s) that tells a story. Be creative!
3. Draw it and use the Pathfinder Palette to make intricate shapes
