SWBAT:
1.Learn / Review what a CARICATURE is
2. Use previous learning of SELECTION TOOLS and working with LAYERS.
3. Use Photopea to CREATE a DRAGON CARICATURE out of
XXXX
1. Load Photopea
2. File > New.
3. Follow example below to name your file correctly.
Example: Dragon Caricature Hooker Martina.psd
4. Enter all of the other settings you see to the left
Use the Polygonal Lasso Tool for the most control.
Selecting and deleting "Bit-By-Bit" is a good strategy when you have a complex image to cut out. Using the Bit-By-Bit select and Delete technique allows you to see your progress and save as you go.
Use the "Bit-By-Bit Select & Delete" technique to cut out te bearded dragon head.
Open this link to the Figure Reference you see pictured left
Control-Click on the image and select COPY
PASTE the figure reference into your Dragon Caricature file
Go to Edit > Preferences and change Change RULER UNITS to INCHES
With the FIGURE REFERENCE layer highlighted, go to Edit > Free Transform.
Hold SHIFT and click and drag on the CORNER TAB to scale up the figure PROPORTIONALLY until the WIDTH (W) is at about 4.7
With the FIGURE REFERENCE layer still HIGHLIGHTED, go to the IMAGE MENU and choose DESATURATE from the ADJUSTMENTS option. (Image > Adjustments > Desaturate)
In the LAYERS PANEL, lower the OPACITY of the FIGURE REFERENCE layer to 60%
DRAG the FIGURE reference layer BELOW the DRAGON head if needed
Select the DRAGON HEAD layer
Choose EDIT > TRANSFORM > FLIP HORIZONTALLY
Open this link to the Stripes Image you see pictured left
Control-Click on the stripes image and select COPY
PASTE the stripes into your Dragon Caricature file
Option Drag the stripes pattern layer to make a copy (Tiling)
Shift click the 2 stripes layers to select them both. (make sure no other layers are highlighted.)
Layer > Merge Layers (check to make sure only the stripes layers merged)
DRAG the stripes layer BELOW the DRAGON head if needed
Name your layers as shown right
Turn OFF the STRIPES layer so you can't see it
ZOOM into the shirt
LOOK at the SCREENSHOT LEFT of the T-shirt selection left. Notice that it DOES NOT MATCH the edges of the T-shirt. It does not have to!
Use the Polygonal Select Tool to make a DOTTED LINE selection around the T-Shirt.
With the dotted line selection still active, Edit > COPY and Edit > PASTE to create a NEW LAYER in the shape of a T-Shirt!
Turn off the Stripes layer so you can see your work.
We will add the arms later!
1. TURN OFF all your layers to make them invisible EXCEPT for the FIGURE REFERENCE LAYER
2. Open the LINK to the T-Shirt Girl
3. Control Click to open the CONTEXT MENU
4. COPY the IMAGE
5. PASTE the image into your DRAGON CARICATURE file
1. Review section 4 (above) for the Bit-By-Bit select and delete technique.
2. Cut out the arm
3. Name the layer RIGHT ARM
4. With the RIGHT ARM layer HIGHLIGHTED go to EDIT > TRANSFORM > FLIP HORIZONTALLY
1. TURN OFF all your layers to make them invisible EXCEPT for the FIGURE REFERENCE LAYER
2. Open the LINK to the Brothers Image
3. Control Click to open the CONTEXT MENU
4. COPY the IMAGE
5. PASTE the image into your DRAGON CARICATURE file
1.Position the BROTHERS image so it is completely VISIBLE on your canvas
2. Select the RECTANGLE SELECT tool and draw a selection around the LEFT ARM of the YOUNGER BROTHER (See Screenshot)
3. Select > Inverse
4. Delete
1. Review section 4 (above) for the Bit-By-Bit select and delete technique.
2. Cut out the arm
3. Name the layer LEFT ARM
4. Turn on the T-shirt layer & Right arm layers
5. Make sure the LEFT ARM layer is HIGHLIGHTED
6. Edit > Free Transform
• Scale down to to 0.5 inches wide
• Rotate to the RIGHT 12 degrees
7. Position it as shown Left
1.. HIGHLIGHT the FIGURE REFERENCE LAYER
2. Open the LINK to the Denim Texture
3. Control Click to open the CONTEXT MENU
4. COPY the IMAGE
5. PASTE the image into your DRAGON CARICATURE file.
6. Position the texture so that it COVERS the LEGS of the FIGURE REFERENCE (See Left)
Turn OFF the DENIM layer so you can't see it
ZOOM into LEFT LEG
LOOK at the SCREENSHOT LEFT of the LEFT LEG selection left. Notice that it DOES NOT MATCH the edges of the PANTS exactly. It does not have to!
Use the Polygonal Select Tool to make a DOTTED LINE selection around the LEFT LEG
With the dotted line selection still active, Edit > COPY and Edit > PASTE to create a NEW LAYER in the shape of the left leg
Turn off the Denim layer so you can see your work.
1.With the right leg selected, create a Brightness / Contrast adjustment layer
2. Adjust the BRIGHTNESS SLIDER to 80 and apply a CLIPPING MASK to the Adjustment Layer. (Layer > Clipping Mask)
Normally an adjustment layer changes the way all the layers below it look. With a clipping mask, only the one single layer below the adjustment layer will look different.3. Arrange and name the layers as shown right
1. HIGHLIGHT the FIGURE REFERENCE Layer but keep it TURNED OFF
2. Open the LINK to the Green Converse Sneakers
3. NAVIGATE to the PHOTO of BOTH SNEAKERS
4. Control Click to open the CONTEXT MENU
5. COPY the IMAGE
6. PASTE the image into your DRAGON CARICATURE file
Make sure the PASTED in SNEAKER layer is HIGHLIGHTED in the layers panel. NAME it BOTH SNEAKERS
Edit > Free Transform
Click on the corner tab while holding the SHIFT key and scale down --- % (DRAFT)
Select the RECTANGLE SELECT Tool
Draw a SELECTION around the LEFT SNEAKER.
Copy and Paste to make a NEW LAYER with just the LEFT SNEAKER.
NAME the new layer LEFT SNEAKER.
REPEAT the PROCESS to make a NEW LAYER with just the RIGHT SNEAKER and NAME the new LAYER RIGHT SNEAKER.
TURN off the BOTH SNEAKERS layer.
When you see that you did everything CORRECTLY, you can DELETE the BOTH SNEAKERS layer.

Rotate left sneaker _ degrees
SELECT to HIGHLIGHT the BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST Adjustment layer. (it should be just below the T-Shirt Layer)
CREATE a new layer by clicking on the NEW layer ICON at the BOTTOM of the LAYERS PANEL (See Top Left)
Select the POLYGONAL SELECT tool and draw a shape for the NECK where there is EMPTY SPACE just BELOW the DRAGON HEAD. (See Middle Left)
Select the EYEDROPPER tool from the tools panel.
With the EYEDROPPER, click on one of the ARMS to sample the skin COLOR.
6. Select the PAINT BUCKET tool. You will probably have to FIND the Paint Bucket Tool under the GRADIENT tool (See Above)
7. With the PAINT BUCKET tool, click INSIDE the DOTTEN LINE selection to fill it with the SKIN COLOR. (See Bottom Left)
Select the PATCH TOOL
Draw a tight SELECTION around the letter "C"
DRAG the dotted line SELECTION to the LEFT
Select > Deselect (COMMAND D)
Repeat the process until you have "removed" all the letters
Select the Type Tool
Enter the following SETTINGS in the OPTIONS Bar
Font: Patua One
Size: 190 px
Color: Black
Hold SHIFT and Type in "DEWEY" in UPPER CASE
Open the WARP Panel from the Type tool OPTIONS Bar and enter the following settings
Style: FISH
Bend: 0
Horizontal Distortion: -78
Vertical Distortion: 0
Make sure the DEWEY lettering is SELECTED in the LAYERS Panel
Layer > Rasterize
Edit > Transform > Distort
Click on the corner tabs until it looks like the sample left
Layer > Layer Style > Color Overlay: Choose White
Hold the SHIFT Key and click on the DEWEY layer and the PENNANT layer to select them BOTH
Edit > Transform > Rotate: Rotate the two layers 35 Degrees
With the TWO LAYERS still SELECTED drag them BELOW the LEFT ARM Layer
COPY and PASTE the Armadillo Lizard TAIL linked here onto your project.
NAME the NEW LAYER "TAIL" and position it UNDER the RIGHT LEG layer in the layers panel
Select the MAGIC WAND tool and set TOLERANCE to 40 in the OPTIONS BAR
With the MAGIC WAND, click on the BLACK area outside the tail and DELETE. Use other tools as needed to select and delete the other pixels.
Edit > Transform > Rotate. Rotate the tail -78 degrees.
POSITION the tail as shown in the screenshot left.
Change the COLOR of the TAIL: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation and enter the following settings:
Apply a CLIPPING MASK so ONLY the color of the TAIL will change. LAYER > CLIPPING MASK.
Select the DRAGON HEAD layer in the LAYERS PANEL
Change the COLOR of the DRAGON HEAD: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation and enter these settings:
Apply a CLIPPING MASK so ONLY the color of the DRAGON HEAD will change. LAYER > CLIPPING MASK.
COPY and PASTE the SNAKE SKIN Texture linked here onto your project.
NAME the NEW LAYER "SNAKE SKIN TEXTURE" and position it so that is is ABOVE both the LEFT ARM and RIGHT ARM layers in the layers panel
POSITION the SNAKE SKIN TEXTURE so that it COVERS BOTH ARMS
TURN OFF the SNAKE SKIN LAYER so you CAN'T SEE IT
HOLD the SHIFT KEY to select BOTH the LEFT ARM and RIGHT ARM layers
Layer > Merge Layers
RENAME the merged layer BOTH ARMS
Select the MAGIC WANT TOOL and set the TOLERANCE to 35
With the MAGIC WAND tool, CLICK on the EMPTY AREA of the LAYER to SELECT everything EXCEPT the ARMS
Select > Inverse. Now BOTH ARMS are PERFECTLY SELECTED
Click on the SNAKE SKIN TEXTURE and TURN it ON. Make sure the snake skin texture completely COVERS BOTH ARMS
12. Click on the LAYER MASK icon at the bottom of the layers panel (See screenshot above)
13. Change the LAYER BLENDING MODE to MULTIPLY (see screenshot below)
Select the BOTH ARMS layer in the LAYERS PANEL
Change the COLOR of the BOTH ARMS LAYER: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation and enter these settings:
Apply a CLIPPING MASK so ONLY the color of the ARMS will change. LAYER > CLIPPING MASK.
4. Select the NECK LAYER
5. Select the MAGIC WAND tool
6. CLICK on the NECK with the MAGIC WAND tool to create a dotted line selection around it.
7. Select the EYE DROPPER tool
8. With the EYE DROPPER tool, click on a DARK GREEN on one of the ARMS. You should now have the dark green color in the FOREGROUND color in your TOOL BOX.
9. Select the PAINT BUCKET tool
10. Click on the selected NECK to fill it with the DARK GREEN color.
