SWBAT:
1. Set up and photograph a Still Life for the upcoming Contour Line Still Life Drawing Assignment
2. Include 7 objects with at least three of the objects being complex.
3. Create 4 thumbnail sketches that explore different options for space, page orientation, and point of view
After you complete the 4 Thumbnail Sketches in this assignment, you will be ready to do the final contour line still life!
Use small items if space is limited
Gather about 10 items to choose from so that you can try different combinations and arrangements
Make sure to have some complex and some simple
Weed out items so you are left with at least 3 being complex
See tips below
Watch a second video about arranging still life objects!
(NOTE: don't use food - we will be taking too long on the assignment and it will rot)
If space is limited, choose small objects
Try to pick interesting objects that have meaning to you
Arrange them in an interesting way and in a safe place where they won't be disturbed
Google Still Life examples for ideas of how to overlap and position objects in a pleasing way.
Don't pick items that will be too difficult to draw.
Don't pick things that need to be refrigerated or used on a regular basis (a mayonnaise jar and your brother's deodorant are not good choices)
Don't arrange still life in a place that can easily get disturbed by members of your household
Do Not Rearrange the Still Life
(16 minutes for both)
Videos will be watched in class 2-22-21
Be sure to try at least one different view
Explore zooming in for a cropped composition or out for extra space
Try at least one different point of view.
Rectangles are needed to plan for the edges and orientation of the final paper. They can be about the size of a Metro Card. Rectangle should look like rectangles, not squares
• So you can make changes easily
• Look closely at your still life for the SIZE and POSITIONING of objects in relation to each other. Also look at the SPACE around your still life
• Sketch out placement with simple shapes, no details needed
• The still life objects should NOT be rearranged
You can use your hands to form a rectangular window and try different options before you start your sketches

include more than 7 objects in your still life
