SWBAT:
Create and apply Paragraph and Character Styles
1. Quit Illustrator by choosing Quit from the Illustrator Program Menu or by Right-Clicking on the Illustrator icon on your Dock.
2. Hold down 3 Keys with one hand:
Command, Option & Shift
3. Load Illustrator
4. Check File > Recent Documents. If it's grayed out you did it right
1. Window > Workspace > Reset Essentials
1. Using the Type tool, insert the cursor in the second paragraph that begins with “When you sneeze...”
2. Click the word “Paragraph” in the Control panel to open the Paragraph panel.
3. Type 10 pt in the Space After Paragraph text field (in the bottom-right corner), and press Return.
1. With the Type tool selected, insert the cursor in the yellow subhead “Cover Your Mouth and Nose.”
2. Choose Window > Type > Paragraph Styles
3. Click the Create New Style button at the bottom of the Paragraph Styles panel.
4. Double-click the style name Paragraph Style 1 in the list of styles. Change the name of the style to Subhead, and press Return .
1. Further down your second threaded text area, click three times on the text “Wash Your Hands” to select it
2. Select the SUBHEAD STYLE in the Paragraph Styles panel.
3. Press the Option key, and select the Subhead style name again in the Paragraph Styles panel to to apply the attributes of the Subhead style to the selected text.
4. With the Type tool, click three times in the text “Stay Home When Sick” to select the paragraph. Option-click the Subhead style in the Paragraph Styles panel.
4. Choose Select > Deselect.
1. Double-click to the right of the name “Subhead” in the Paragraph Styles panel list to open the Paragraph Style Options dialog box.
2. Select the Indents and Spacing category on the left side of the dialog box.
3. Change the Space After to 10 pt.
4. Click OK. Choose
5. File > Save.
1 Using the Type tool , in the first paragraph after the subhead, “Cover Your Mouth and Nose,” select the text “Do not cover your mouth with your hands.”
2. Choose Italic from the Font Style menu in the Control panel. Click the word “Character,” and then click the Underline button to underline the text as well.
3 . In the Paragraph Styles panel group, click the Character Styles panel tab.
4. In the Character Styles panel, Option-click the Create New Style button at the bottom of the Character Styles panel.
5. Name the style emphasis, and click OK. The style records the attributes applied to your selected text.
6. With the text still selected, Option-click the style named emphasis in the Character Styles panel to assign the style to that text so that it will update if the style changes.
7. In the next paragraph, after the “Wash Your Hands” subhead, select the text “Wash your hands often” and apply the emphasis style while pressing the Option key.
8. Choose Select > Deselect.
1. Select > Deselect! Make sure none of your text is selected.
2. Double-click to the right of the emphasis style name in the Character Styles panel (not the style name itself).
3. In the Character Style Options dialog box, click Character Color category on the left and make sure that the Fill box is selected.
4. Click the light yellow swatch (C=0 M=2 Y=60 K=0) in the Swatches panel that appears. Click OK.
5. Click the style named [Normal Character Style] in the Character Styles panel.
6. Close the Character Styles panel group.
7. Choose Select > Deselect, if necessary
8. File > Save
The bottom of your poster should look like this
