SWBAT:

1. Draw 3 IDENTICAL designs consisting of 5 - 7 shape / text layers

2. Use the 3 designs to illustrate the following color schemes

• Complementary

• Analogous

• Monochromatic

1. Log in to Photopea.com and choose NEW PROJECT

2. Name your project "Color Studies" followed by a space, your last name and then your first name.

3. Choose INCHES

4. Enter 11 for WIDTH, 8.5 for HEIGHT

5. Set BACKGROUND to WHITE

1. Select the TYPE TOOL

2. Make sure the Foreground Background is set the the DEFAULT Black & White

3. Select a FONT the looks CHUNKY and SOLID

4. Set the point size to 200

5. Click (DO NOT DRAG) to create an insertion point for POINT TYPE

6. Type 1-4 Letters/Numbers

7. Open the LAYER STYLE drop down menu (see right). Select STROKE and set the COLOR to BLACK and SIZE to 4PX or larger.

8. Open the Layer Style drop down menu AGAIN and set the COLOR OVERLAY to WHITE

1. Select the BACKGROUND Layer in the LAYERS PANEL

2. Select a SHAPE TOOL and in the OPTIONS BAR set the FILL to WHITE and the STROKE to BLACK.

3. Again in the OPTIONS BAR, change the Stroke THICKNESS to 4px or higher

4. Create a design that consists of between 5 and 7 shape layers. Include the TEXT layer you created in section 3 above.

5. Use the MOVE TOOL to POSITION everything NEATLY.

1. SHIFT CLICK to select your 5 - 7 shape/text layers.

2. Click on the FOLDER icon at the bottom of the layers panel

3. OPTION-DRAG to make a COPY of the FOLDER

4. With ONE of the folders highlighted go to the LAYER MENU and choose MERGE LAYERS.

5. Click on the EYE icon in the layers panel next to the unmerged folder. It's wise to keep copies of layers, in case you decide to make changes later.

6. OPTION DRAG your new MERGED design layer 2 times so you have a total of 3 (see left)

7. Arrange the designs NEATLY with QUIDES and / or the ALIGNMENT & SPACING buttons in the OPTIONS BAR

1. COPY & PASTE the color wheel (right) onto your Color Studies file

2. CHOOSE a PAIR of COMPLEMENTARY colors.

3. DON'T CHOOSE Yellow & Violet

4. Use the EYEDROPPER to pull the colors you chose from the color wheel you pasted in and the PAINT BUCKET to fill the shapes. Make sure you have the correct layer highlighted!

5. Include at least one SHADE and at least one TINT.

6. LABEL your design COMPLEMENTARY with POINT TYPE (See Sample left)

7. Format the text so that it is easy to read and sized nicely.

1. CHOOSE 3 or more ANALOGOUS colors.

2. DON'T CHOOSE Orange, Red-Orange, and Red-Violet

3. Use the EYEDROPPER to pull the colors you chose from the color wheel you pasted in and the PAINT BUCKET to fill the shapes. Make sure you have the correct layer highlighted!

4. OPTION-DRAG your COMPLEMENTARY label to make a copy so you can have the same font formatting. Highlight the text with the TYPE TOOL and change it to ANALOGOUS

5. POSITION the Analogous LABEL neatly

1. Choose ONE color

2. DON'T CHOOSE BLUE

3. Use the MAGIC WAND to select shapes, the EYEDROPPER to pull SHADES, TINTS & the COLOR you chose from the color wheel you pasted in, and use the PAINT BUCKET to fill the shapes

4. OPTION-DRAG one of your labels to make a copy so you can have the same font formatting. Highlight the text with the TYPE TOOL and change it to MONOCHROMATIC

5. POSITION the MONOCHROMATIC label neatly

6. DELETE the COLOR WHEEL

1. Select the BACKGROUND Layer in the Layers Panel.

2. Select the TYPE TOOL

3. Set the foreground color to BLACK

4. Set the FONT to Deju VuSans, Book, the SIZE to 40 PX, and the ALIGNMENT to CENTER

5. Review Different kinds of Cases if you don't know what "Title Case" is.

6. Use POINT TYPE and TITLE CASE (see step 4) to type in a Title, your name followed by a comma and then your class period. (See screenshot)

7. With the TYPE TOOL, highlight the TITLE and change the font to Deja Vu Bold Oblique and the SIZE to 60 px

8. Use the MOVE TOOL to position your text to the LOWER CENTER of your page INSIDE the PRINTABLE AREA.

NOTE: Oblique and Italic are the same thing

Use the private comment's section for the Peer Review.

1. Switch seats with a classmate so that you can review each others' work and give feedback. Review the grading criteria (below).

2. Go to the GC assignment posting

3. Type your Peer Review into your classmate's Color Studies Assignment Private comment section. Include one compliment and one suggestion based on the grading criteria. Also include your name.

4. Make sure to have them do the same for you!

5. If you are having trouble getting someone to do a peer review, let me know

6. Also include a REFLECTION: What were you successful at? What did you struggle with?

7. Finally add what grade you think you deserve.
