August 3, 2024 - Romblon State Universityโs Health Services Unit spearheaded a comprehensive misting operation across the entire campus to proactively combat the dengue-carrying mosquito population. This initiative aimed to halt mosquito breeding and prevent potential dengue outbreaks within the university community. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and the Provincial Department of Health Office-Romblon (PDOHO), reflecting a united effort to safeguard public health.
In addition to the fumigation, the university also organized a campus-wide clean-up drive on August 1, 2024. This activity, which took place in preparation for the upcoming academic year starting on August 5, focused on removing debris and other materials that could serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
During the misting operation, the Health Services Unit and misting team identified potential mosquito breeding sites throughout the campus and emphasized the importance of following the 5S strategy. This includes: Search and Destroy (eliminating mosquito habitats), Seek Early Consultation (prompt medical advice in case of symptoms), Secure Self Protection (use of mosquito repellents and protective clothing), Sustain Vector Control Measures (continuously monitor and control mosquito populations), and Sustain Hydration (ensure proper fluid intake to combat dengue fever symptoms). Through these measures, Romblon State University aims to enhance campus safety and promote a healthier environment for all students and staff.
