March 21, 2024 - A momentous event, Kulayaan: Gabi it Pagkilaya, was held to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and recognize its outstanding members.
An event organized by the University's Gender and Development Office and spearheaded by John Kelly F. Madeja, Kulayaan: Gabi it Pagkilaya is the first recognition program conducted in RSU and in Romblon to acknowledge the valuable accomplishments of various LGBTQ+ members in their respective fields.
The event was hosted by Turner Evon de Torres from the Quality Assurance Unit and Maria Josefa Punongbayan, Office of the President and Graduate Education and Professional Studies.
A video overview further enlightened the guests on the objectives and goals of the event, followed by an upbeat performance of the RSU Street Dance Crew.
University President Mani delivered a powerful message, saying that RSU advocates for equality and inclusivity through its various initiatives and programs.
"Our institution stands as one of the advocates of gender development and inclusivity and we work hard to make sure this is felt by the members of the LGBTQ community," said Pres. Mani.
She added, "Let us uplift the voices that contribute to our dynamic culture. Let's work together to create a society where every individual can live without fear of discrimination."
The event also featured an electrifying intermission number by Ms. Chelisa and the VFactor Dance Squad.
Ms. Rachel Llorca, GAD Coordinator of the College of Arts and Sciences, intoduced the Keynote Speaker of the Event, Hon. Aaron James Stephen C. Madrona.
Hon. Madrona applauded the efforts of the university for its consistent support to the LGBTQ+ community and for becoming a safe space for all Romblomanons to express themselves and be proud of their identity.
Sandigang Panlalagiwan Hon. Bing Solis also attended the event and delivered a message of solidarity, expressing her steadfast support to the LGBTQ+ Community by crafting and proposing legistations for the welfare of the members of this vibrant community.
A key highlight was the awarding ceremony, in which top officials awarded plaques of appreciation to exceptional individuals from various sectors.

The ceremony continued with other captivating performances from Jovan Pusa and Alexander Mangoba, keeping the energy high throughout the night.
The much-anticipated reveal of the Stars of the Night was met with thunderous applause, as the sashes and cash prizes were given to Chelisa and Pido, two of the guests who stood out with their dazzling outfits.
The Director of Gender and Development Office and the University's GAD Focal Person, Ms. Carolyn Fetalver delivered heartfelt closing remarks, thanking everyone who made the event possible.
Following the formal program, a lively social gathering ensued, featuring DJ Khaje's electrifying music mixes, which also served as an excellent opportunity for attendees to connect and celebrate their achievements.
With the success of this awards ceremony, Pres. Mani declared Kulayaan an annual tradition of the university in fostering inclusivity, celebrating success, and upholding the culture of unity, honor, and excellence.
