September 20, 2024 โ Romblon State University (RSU) organized a heartwarming gift-giving program at the Odiongan District Jail for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL). The initiative aimed to uplift the spirits of individuals who are currently incarcerated, highlighting the importance of compassion and community support during difficult times.
Ms. April Joy A. Fabelia, a faculty member from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), graciously hosted the event, commencing with a solemn invocation. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem, where all participants stood proudly in respect for the nation.
The program saw a warm welcome from Ms. Mary Jane A. Fadri, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She emphasized the significance of sharing and giving back to the community, especially during challenging periods. Her welcoming remarks set a positive tone for the event.
A key highlight of the program was a message delivered by Atty. Glenn Niรฑo M. Sartillo, Vice President of Legal and Student Affairs and Services. He elaborated on the event's goals, aligning them with the institution's mission to uplift the community. Atty. Sartillo emphasized that the gift-giving program was not merely about distributing material goods but about sharing love, hope, and compassion with those in need. Dr. Merian P. Cataytay-Mani, the University President, delivered an inspirational message, sharing personal experiences of generosity and the profound impact of kindness. Following the intermission, Mr. Kreisler I. Fontamillas introduced the resource person for a health and wellness discussion. Dr. Renato R. Menrige Jr., RSU Alumni President and health expert, delivered an engaging presentation on Health and Wellness. He emphasized maintaining a balanced lifestyle, particularly during hardships, and shared practical tips on nutrition, mental health care, and physical activity. Attendees expressed their appreciation for the informative insights shared during this session.
The event concluded with Dr. Eddie G. Fetalvero, Vice President for Research, Extension, Development, and Innovation (REDI), giving closing remarks. He thanked everyone for their participation, especially the volunteers and sponsors who made the event possible. Dr. Fetalvero underscored the importance of continued collaboration for future initiatives and encouraged attendees to remain hopeful and resilient.
