August 8, 2024 - Romblon State University (RSU) continues its pursuit of excellence in sustainable water management through the conduct of Waterwise Expo 2024 at held at the Learning Resource Center (LRC).
The event, hosted by RSU in partnership with Isabela State University (ISU) and Kyoto University, brought together students, researchers, and guests to discuss innovative approaches in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for water resources management.
Prof. Dr. Eddie G. Fetalvero, Vice President for Research, Extension, Development & Innovation at RSU delivered the opening remarks by welcoming the participants and setting the tone for the expo.
Prof. Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani, President of Romblon State University, delivered an Inspirational Message, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation in achieving sustainable water management.
โLearning from our highly recognized counterparts from Isabela State University and Kyoto University will allow us to review and revisit our own practices and improve them based on our regional context,โ President Mani said.
Isabela State Universityโs research and development center on SMART Water Infrastructure and Management (SWIM) was recognized and funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) as a Niche Center in the Regions for R&D (NICER) for Region 02.
ISUโs SWIM-NICER R&D center was designed to build projects focusing on Smart Water Resources Planning and Development, Sustainable and Resilient Flood Control Infrastructures, and Water Resources Management.
Prof. Sameh Ahmed Kantoush from the Disaster Prevention Research Institute at Kyoto University delivered the Keynote Address, sharing his expertise on disaster prevention and water resource management.
Dr. Orlando F. Balderama, Vice President for Research, Development, Extension, & Training at Isabela State University (ISU) and Program Leader of the SWIM NICER R&D Center shared the innovative research and development initiatives at ISU, particularly in SMART Water Infrastructure and Management (SWIM).
Later in the afternoon, Dr. Isagani P. Angeles, Jr., Director for Public Relations, External Affairs, and International Linkages at ISU, and Program Leader of the Fishery NICER Center, shared Good Practices on Linkages and Fishery NICER Center.
The Waterwise Expo 2024 has proven to be an enriching and inspiring event, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among researchers and institutions.
The REDI unit's efforts in organizing this event were greatly valued, and the partnerships established are anticipated to significantly advance sustainable water management and the achievement of SDGs, all in the spirit of serving beyond honor and excellence.
