March 1, 2023 - Pisay MIMAROPA Region Campus ignites interest in astronomy during the 30th National Astronomy Week with a series of eventsโincluding an online teacher forum, public telescope viewing, and an astrocampโto promote astronomy education and scientific literacy among the students and enthusiasts.
The week-long celebration kicked off with an online teacher forum entitled Empowering High School Astronomy Educators Forum: Breaking Barriers for Sustainable Development on Feb 23 that covered a range of topics related to astronomy education, astrochemistry, and astrobiology conducted by PISAY MRC teachers. Teachers from different schools from CAR, NCR, and Cavite participated in the forum.
The public telescope viewing event held on February 24, 2023 drew a large crowd of astronomy enthusiasts of all ages at Firmalo Boulevard, Brgy. Ligaya, Odiongan. Three telescopes were set up for people to observe the night sky. Despite the cloudy skies, attendees were able to see the Moon up close.
The last activity of the National Astronomy Week was the astrocamp, which was held on February 25-26 at Romblon State University. Over 150 students from RSU College of Education and other colleges participated in the said event. The students engaged in a series of astronomy and astrophotography talks and telescope viewing.
Through its various activities, the resounding success of PISAY MRC's celebration of the 30th National Astronomy Week in collaboration with the Philippine Astronomical Society, Inc. and RSU Company of Educated Learners and Lecturers in Science - CELLS was able to inspire deeper appreciation for the cosmos and inspire scientific curiosity among students and the community.
