September 27, 2024 - The recent SDG Connect Event was a resounding success, bringing together students, faculty, and community members to explore and engage with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants showcased their creativity and knowledge in various competitions, including photography, essay writing, and a quiz bee. Notably, Ms. Emmarie Rose T. Salcedo from Panpacific University was crowned the champion in the photography category, while Ms. Justine S. Machon from Romblon State University secured the top spot in the essay competition. In the quiz bee, Shulammite Faigao, also from Romblon State University, emerged victorious, highlighting the deep commitment of students to the SDGs.
A key highlight of the event was the SDG Talks, featuring Dr. Engelbert C. Pasag, Vice President for Internationalization at Panpacific University. Dr. Pasag emphasized the importance of integrating sustainable practices into everyday life and university curricula. He encouraged attendees to view educational institutions as vital players in promoting inclusivity and gender equality. Engaging dialogue fostered a collaborative environment, where participants explored the necessity of collective efforts to achieve the SDGs and the importance of environmental conservation. Discussions centered on creating gender-sensitive facilities, incorporating gender equality topics into academic subjects, and the need for continuous growth in fostering inclusivity within educational frameworks.
RSU aims to share best practices in SDG implementation with other universities and will actively participate in sustainability rankings to further solidify its commitment to achieving these global goals. The event reinforced the importance of sustainable living and collective action, inspiring attendees to take actionable steps towards a more sustainable and equitable future.ย
