February 27, 2024 - Romblon State University has implemented a new sustainability initiative aimed at reducing single-use plastics across its campuses and activities. Announced on February 27, 2024, this policy requires all employees and workers to minimize their use of disposable plastic items such as bottles, bags, cups, wrappers, utensils, and straws. The university is encouraging the adoption of more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives as part of its commitment to environmental stewardship. 

Faculty members are tasked with raising awareness among students and promoting participation in this green campaign. To underscore the seriousness of this effort, the unnecessary use of single-use plastics will be considered a violation of office rules, in line with the 2017 Rules on Administrative Cases in Civil Service. 

This comprehensive approach demonstrates Romblon State University's dedication to reducing its ecological footprint and fostering a culture of sustainability within the institution.

March 11, 2024 - Romblon State University (RSU) has introduced a Vehicle Gate Pass System to enhance security and regulate traffic within its main campus. Effective April 1, 2024, all vehicles entering the university premises must have a valid Gate Pass Sticker, which will be issued by the Public Assistance and Security Office.

This initiative aims to ensure smooth traffic flow, minimize congestion, and maintain a secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders. Interested individuals must apply for a vehicle pass at the university’s main gate (Gate 2) and settle the corresponding fees:

• ₱200.00 for four-wheeled vehicles (valid for 1 year)

• ₱100.00 for two-wheeled vehicles (valid for 1 year)

• ₱150.00 for franchised tricycles and private e-bikes (valid for 1 year)

The directive aligns with RSU’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and organized mobility on campus. The university encourages strict compliance with this policy to foster a well-regulated transportation system within its premises.

June 11,  2024 - As part of Romblon State University's commitment to sustainability and in fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 13 on Climate Action, the University is adopting the Paper Use Reduction Policy. This initiative affirms our responsibility to reduce waste, promote efficiency, and contribute to environmental preservation through responsible management of resources.

December 27, 2023 - Romblon State University (RSU) is implementing a new Compressed Workweek and Work-from-Home (WFH) scheme for the second semester of 2023-2024. Announced by University President Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani, the policy requires employees to work on campus Monday to Thursday, with Fridays designated for WFH.

This arrangement aims to promote work-life balance while maintaining operational efficiency. It aligns with Civil Service Commission guidelines on flexible work in government institutions. Fridays will be used for faculty development, training, and student contact hours.

The university has provided WFH Monitoring Tools to oversee remote work effectively. This initiative reflects RSU's commitment to adapting to modern work practices while ensuring quality education and services.

September 08, 2022 - Romblon State University (RSU) is strengthening its commitment to environmental sustainability by enforcing strict compliance with the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003) and the Single-Use Plastic Regulation and Management Act of 2022 (Senate Bill 246). The university mandates all deans, directors, and incident commanders to ensure proper waste segregation, promote the use of reusable materials, and conduct daily monitoring of waste management practices. Violations of these regulations may result in penalties ranging from ₱5,000 to ₱500,000, along with the permanent suspension of business permits for non-compliance. Government employees, including those at RSU, are also expected to adhere to these policies without administrative leniency.

To further support sustainable practices, RSU encourages research and development on alternatives to single-use plastics while assessing the environmental impacts of the plastic industry. This initiative aligns with the university’s broader mission to create a cleaner and more responsible academic environment. By fostering awareness and proactive waste management, RSU continues to lead efforts in reducing plastic pollution and promoting sustainability within the campus and the wider community.

September 20, 2021 - Romblon State University (RSU) issued Office Advisory RSU-DRRMO No. 010 s. 2022 on September 20, 2022, to enhance campus safety and sustainability. The advisory, signed by Edgar V. Andalecio, OIC, Director DRRMO, and noted by Tomas F. Faminial, Vice President for Administration and Finance, establishes new policies on parking regulations, speed limits, and vehicle restrictions within the university.

Effective September 25, 2022, RSU prohibits parking along the Main Road and Service Road to prevent traffic congestion and reduce accident risks. These measures prioritize safety and well-being by minimizing hazards for students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, restrictions on protruding vehicle parts and a speed limit of 20 kph promote an organized and accessible campus, ensuring safe mobility for all. The ban on motorcycles without silencers helps reduce noise pollution and fosters a healthier environment.

To implement these regulations effectively, the Head for Internal Audit on Infrastructure and Facilities will designate parking spaces for each college and unit. Faculty and staff play a crucial role in raising awareness and ensuring compliance with these policies. By promoting responsible transportation, reducing environmental impact, and ensuring safety for the university community, RSU continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability and inclusive development.

August 13,  2021 - Romblon State University (RSU) is committed to promoting sustainable resource management through its Energy and Water Use Efficiency and Conservation Policy. This initiative aims to enhance efficiency, reduce operational costs, and contribute to environmental protection. Aligned with national laws such as the Climate Change Act of 2009 (RA 9729) and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (RA 11285), the policy reinforces RSU’s dedication to responsible environmental stewardship.

To ensure energy efficiency, RSU has implemented guidelines limiting air-conditioning usage to six hours per day, with a maximum of eight hours during summer. Air-conditioning units must be set at 25°C, and natural ventilation is encouraged whenever possible. The use of energy-saving lamps is prioritized, while inefficient lighting, such as halogen or incandescent bulbs, is discouraged. All electrical appliances and lights must be turned off when not in use to prevent unnecessary energy consumption.

Water conservation measures include regular maintenance of faucets and water facilities to prevent leaks, as well as encouraging responsible water use in daily activities such as washing hands and brushing teeth. Awareness programs will be conducted to educate students and staff on the importance of water conservation. To ensure effective implementation, RSU will designate Energy and Water Conservation Champions across different units to lead awareness initiatives and monitor compliance with the policy.

Through these measures, RSU strengthens its commitment to sustainability, integrating responsible energy and water consumption into its daily operations and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility within the university community.

October 18, 2018 - Romblon State University implements a Solid Waste Management Segregation and Collection Policy to ensure proper handling of biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recyclable waste across all offices and units. The policy mandates full compliance with waste segregation procedures to support campus cleanliness and environmental sustainability.

Under this policy, only properly segregated waste will be collected by the APSPCO Office. All university personnel and offices are required to follow the segregation guidelines to maintain an orderly and eco-friendly campus environment.
