October 24, 2024 - Romblon State University proudly participated in OBRA MIMAROPA 2024, a prestigious event showcasing the rich cultural heritage, creativity, and innovation across the MIMAROPA Region. Held from October 24-27, 2024, at the Glorietta Activity Center, Makati City, the event gathered local artists and creators to exhibit their crafts and contributions, strengthening regional identity and collaboration.
Themed "Empowering Communities Through Creativity and Sustainability," this year's OBRA MIMAROPA trade show emphasized the vital role of arts and culture in regional development. One of the highlights was RSU's short film "Skeytbord," which captivated the audience with its powerful story of resilience and determination. The filmmakersโJohn Victor de la Torre and Mac Angel Capidos (both from CCMADI), Justine Machon (CAS), and coach Charevel F. Ferrancoโvirtually shared their experiences and offered encouragement to aspiring filmmakers.
In addition, Jerryjay Fornal and Steven L. Dinaga from RSU's Office of Media and Public Affairs presented RSU's cutting-edge multimedia practices, such as video mapping, interactive photobooths, and visual arts displays, showcasing the university's innovative approaches to community engagement and institutional branding.
Also making an impact at the event was Associate Professor John Fabello, a music enthusiast from RSU, who, along with his team from Sounds of Grace, performed Ini and Onhan songsโmusical pieces that are a result of his research in Sibuyan Island.
RSU's participation in OBRA MIMAROPA 2024 underscores the university's commitment to fostering community linkages and developing the creative skills and intellectual contributions of RSUvians and Romblomanons. This event also highlighted the strong support of RSU's leadership, with participants expressing gratitude for the university's collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry and the Provincial Government Office, contributing to the success of the event.
