Day 1: Artifacts and Inferences Activity

1. Find three personal items. They might be in your pocket right now. Or it could be items you use on a daily basis, or things you keep in a special place.

2. Fill in the chart on your interactive google doc.

3. Based on the artifacts that you've chosen, write a personal statement about yourself.

Ancient Civilizations Intro Day 2

Day 2. Song Analysis Activity. You will need your interactive google doc (link on slide 1 and 3), that you’ve already started, to record you ideas for this learning activity.

1. Listen to the song Unforgivable Youth by Lupe Fiasco. Focus on the 3rd verse.

2. Record key words or phrases that represent artifacts.

3. Identify the inferences made by the narrator.

4. Evaluate the artist’s inferences. Are there any misunderstandings.

Day 5: Poetry Analysis

1.Read and annotate the poem Ozymandias.

2. Identify key lines from the poem.

3. Make an inference about the meaning of the line of poetry.

4. Write a summary sentence about the overall message of the poem.


Day 5: Written Response (7-10 lines)

1. Identify three artifacts you have found in the ruins of Philadelphia.

2. Make an inference about what each artifact reveals about the city and people of Philadelphia.

3. Using your artifacts and inferences, write a story about the ancient civilization that was once Philadelphia. Be creative!
