NJSD VOLUNTEER SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
Neenah High School (NHS) believes that a well-rounded education is one that allows students to explore their academic interests while also experiencing the benefits of engaging in activities that support the community in which they live. Because of this belief, NHS encourages all students to complete 35 hours of volunteer service by the conclusion of their senior year. The administration will develop guidelines and structures to provide ample opportunities for all students to experience volunteer service opportunities.
Volunteer service is an activity that is . . .
completed at a non-profit agency or organization or for the benefit of a pre-approved civic engagement, community initiative, and/or community institution. Volunteer service opportunities at for-profit organizations can only be approved if the service is not performed for the purpose of creating or increasing profit for that organization. All proposed volunteer service opportunities at for-profit organizations are subject to review and approval.
beneficial to at least one other person and/or the larger community.
separate from a service mandated by a court or school disciplinary action.
performed for no pay.
If students wish to further pursue community service opportunities beyond the recommended 35 hours, they may earn the following:
80 hours = students will receive one-half elective credit towards graduation, grade earned will be pass rather than a letter grade
250 hours = students will receive a youth service high honor cord and recognition at graduation
Physical Education Replacement Credit
Students in grades 9-12 are required to take 1.5 credits of physical education, over the course of three (3) school years, to meet State of Wisconsin and Neenah Joint School District graduation requirements.
Beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, Neenah Joint School District provides students in grades 9-12 who have successfully participated in a recognized athletic activity* with the option to replace one half credit (0.5 credit) of the physical education graduation requirement with an additional half credit (0.5 credit) in English, social studies, mathematics or science Wis. Stat. sec. 118.33 (1) (e). In order to be eligible for this replacement opportunity, students must successfully complete the following:
Submit the Physical Education Replacement Credit form for approval prior to the first day of the athletic activity season.
Participate in a recognized athletic activity* for an entire season during grades 9 - 11 or first semester of grade 12 which is defined as:
Be an athlete in good standing during the entire athletic activity season which includes regular attendance and participation at practices and competitions. In the case of an extended illness or injury, a prescribed attendance and participation plan will be created by the coach for the athlete to fulfill.
Have no Code of Conduct violations during the entire athletic activity season
Remain academically eligible during the entire athletic activity season
Successful completion of the above criteria will earn students a “pass” grade for one-half credit (0.5 credit) of physical education and will be noted on the student transcript. Working with their high school counselor, students will select and successfully complete one additional half credit (0.5 credit) in English, social studies, mathematics or science prior to graduation in order to meet graduation requirements.
*Recognized Athletic Activities (JV and Varsity)
Important Information for the class of 2023
Dual Credit Graduation Requirement
Beginning with the Class of 2023, each Neenah High School graduate will be required to enroll in and complete at least one post-secondary, credit yielding, course prior to graduation. As we prepare graduates of Neenah Joint School District to be college and career ready, one critical experience is the completion of a post-secondary course prior to graduation. Students participating in these post-secondary course opportunities will experience the rigor and depth of college or technical college courses while receiving the support and guidance of Neenah High School staff and earning college credit. Post-secondary course opportunities would include dual credit technical college courses, AP® courses, and CAPP courses. It is understood that flexibility and accommodations may need to be provided to students based on learning needs, post-secondary and career goals.
Advanced Placement® AP® policy changes by College Board
Beginning the fall of 2019, students who enroll in an AP® class will automatically be registered for that course's exam. If students do NOT wish to take the exam in May, it will be their responsibility to complete and return the necessary opt-out form to their assigned instructor by the first week in October to have their names removed from the exam order. (Exams will be ordered the first week in November.) Each exam fee is currently $94 (but may increase in future years). If a student is in the Free or Reduced Lunch program a reduced exam fee can be arranged if the AP coordinator is made aware at registration. Confidentiality is assured. It is the student's responsibility to check with prospective post-secondary schools to ensure credit will be given prior to taking the course or exam. This year we have created a form that is meant to help you through the process of selecting your courses for next year. We know it can be confusing, so we hope this helps! After you finish this process and hit submit, you will receive a copy of your answers by email. It is important for you to know that after you finish this process, you'll then need to take your list of course selections to Xello to submit your actual selections for next year, and then you are done! (How do you get to Xello? Enter through your ClassLink!)
Course Selection 2021/2022 Google Form
While you make your course selections, we're going to ask you to keep track of how many credits you are signing up for as you go. This means you'll want a pen and paper to make sure you sign up for the right number of credits that you would like.
This Course selection Planning Sheet can help you keep a list of course selections as you are looking through the courses that Neenah High School has to offer.
