Course Content: This course focuses on the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Central to this focus are topics that examine how people think, feel, and behave as individuals and in groups. Psychology is a wide-ranging discipline dealing with almost all areas of human experience. Its key concepts revolve around seven domains. These include: 1) how psychologists go about their work, (2) how our body's functions influence our minds, (3) how we grow and learn, (4) what our relationships mean to us, (5) how our intellects and thinking abilities can work for or against us, (6) how our individual differences enrich our understanding of what makes people tick, and (7) what mental disorders are, how they are treated and what mental health is. Psychology has a wide variety of real-life applications which we will discuss in this course. These applications include (but are not limited to) psychology related to the world of work, parenting, understanding peoples' decisions on a personal level and an interpersonal level, understanding cultural differences, and other high-interest topics. It is recommended that students wanting to take this course should have average to above-average reading ability.
Course Activities: Students will be provided with lectures, readings, interesting videos, small-group discussions, demonstrations, and the like.
