Course Content: Introduction to illustration, past and present; mini-lessons showing descriptive detail and supporting dialogue through illustration; illustrations of folktales, myths, fables, character sketches, short stories, poetry, publishing and final presentations. A variety of art mediums and techniques will be practiced and used, including digital art.
Course Activities: Study of historical and modern-day illustration, Caldecott award-winning illustrations, illustration as a creative career, introduction to elements and principles of design in illustration, concept planning, creating thumbnail sketches and mock-ups, exploring new points of view, engaging in the viewer, developing a personal style, collaborative work and class critiques, experiments with digital trends, pen and ink, photography, colored pencil, watercolor, acrylic, printmaking and mixed media, final presentation event.
$20 -covers all art supplies, including matte board, illustration board, ink pens, paints, brushes, and other supplies.
