Prerequisite: available to Arete Academy students Or Teacher Recommendation
Content: All students will be competent in the following knowledge, skills, and behaviors by the end of this course.
Effectively care for a hydroponic growing system
Determine plants suited for hydroponic growing conditions
Produce plants in a hydroponic system
Develop a guide for a teacher or student who is new to hydroponics
Activities: Activities will include:
Daily care and maintenance of the hydroponics units
Problem-solving/troubleshooting of the units should issues arise
Research of new findings in hydroponics and the future of sustainability
Trips to classrooms in the District that have hydroponics units to answer questions and to share ideas with other students
Explore and implement ideas on how to expand the hydroponics program
Grow and distribute crops to the staff/students
Partnership with community businesses to provide them with crops
Fostering mentorship for younger students related to science in the District.
