Prerequisite: Students should be in high (3rd & 4th) level art courses and have an art teacher or department chair recommendation.
Course Content: Portfolio Preparation is essential for artists to inform others of their strengths and talents. Professional presentation is key when portfolios are submitted for scholarships or job interviews. Students must know how to professionally prepare their work for display and photographic presentations. Art students will learn to produce professional-quality matting, how to set up lighting and photograph their own artwork for digital images. They will learn about the role of curators by visiting galleries in order to learn how they function in the sale of artwork. Students will prepare and practice presentations of their work. They will also learn how to submit work to shows and competitions and where to look for opportunities to do so. Critiques and portfolio reviews will be parts of this course.
Course Activities: Preparing artwork specifically to fulfill AP® requirements, image preparation, critiques, portfolio review, and field trips to galleries as appropriate.
Student Cost: Supplies, matte board, digital storage and preparation costs (approximately $15-$20).
