Recommendation: Beginning with the current freshman class (2024 graduates) this course will be revised to be an elective course, and not a required course for graduation. Speech offers students many valuable opportunities to enhance their communication skills and we wish to maintain the opportunity. As an elective course, Speech Communication will be open to students in grades 9-12. See Appendix B for an updated flow chart for English courses.
This course is designed to give an opportunity to express themselves in a variety of speaking situations and to help them feel at ease with oral communication. Students will gain experience by preparing and delivering a variety of speeches and practicing the art of interpersonal communication. Time will be devoted to selecting topics, researching, organizing and rehearsing.
