Wrestling places 9th at State, girls place 19th

The boys' wrestling team placed 9th overall and the girls placed 19th overall at the OSAA State Tournament on Feb. 25-26, to include many exemplary performances, including David Douglas bringing home a State Champion once again. 

At 220 pounds in the 6/A division, senior Steven Ramos took home the Championship, winning four in a row then the championship match,  winning his first state championship, for the first time for David Douglas in five years.

At 170 pounds in the 6/A division, senior Anthony Linares brought back 4th place after a 3-2 DEC loss to the eventual champion, being knocked down to the consolation bracket where he won one then lost one, placing him in 4th. 

At 190 pounds in the combined 6/A and 5/A division, sophomore Mckenzie Mills placed runner up (2nd) losing by fall in 1:59. 

At 285 pounds in the 6/A division, junior E.J. Wedge took home 4th place after a loss to the runner-up of the tournament by fall 4:18, being knocked to the consolation bracket where he won two then lost one, placing him in 4th place. 

Other notable wrestlers who contributed to the team's success include, at 120 pounds, junior Yestin Narruhn, 126 pound junior Max Pilat, 132 pound junior Troy Hockett, 138 pound senior Erik Klimyuk, 152 pound junior Long Le, and 160 pound junior Hung Le.

“All of our wrestlers have had an amazing season with huge gains and tons of growth and learning,” said girls coach Tara Williams. “Thank you DDHS community for all of your support for these hard working student athletes over this season, it has helped to inspire and push them through a long and grueling season in one of the toughest sports in the world.”
