The soon-to-be second largest library in the state, to be located in Gresham, will be a 95,000 square-foot building that will bring readers a modern structure with books of every kind to check out.

Project leads Adjaye Associates and Holst Architecture crafted the library. The library will include a huge auditorium that will host various events such as family programs, performances, and cultural celebrations. The facility will have two plazas where students and adults can hang out, relax, and read. Inside the library, computers, natural light, and stacks of books will await the interested population.

Not only will the library offer these new beneficial features for readers, but there will also be an impressive view of Mt. Hood. The library’s exact location will be Entry Plaza at NW Division St & NW Ava Ln. Because it is so close to three bus stations and the MAX line, the location of the library will be very convenient for the community. Transportation of all sorts is available for students to access the library.

Multnomah County has 18 libraries, 19 including the new one to be built in Gresham. More than 2.7 million books and other library materials can be found in these locations. Opportunities are coming up for volunteers. The Summer Reading Program allows volunteers to help visitors sign up for games, award prizes, and to talk about books with others. Volunteer shifts will begin on June 16 and end on Aug. 31. Applications are available on the Multnomah County Library website and in-person at all locations.

The new library's location will be finalized through Purchase and Sale Agreements.  The new library will be a short bus or MAX ride to David Douglas High School and is expected to open in early 2025. Forty percent of those residing in Multnomah County will be able to use the library and its many features.
