The Premiere was held on April 28, 2023. Tickets, designed to resemble movie tickets, began selling on April 3. These tickets gave guests extra information for attending the event. If a student wanted to bring an outside guest, a form had to be signed and returned to activities director Kelsey Stiff. The theme of the prom was The Premiere which could be portrayed as an old Hollywood or red carpet theme.

On sight to purchase tickets, nominations for prom royalty were taken. At prom, these nominees were announced. They included seniors David Alderton, Riley Herbert, Paris Tausinga, and Dora Hussein. Paris Tausinga and Dora Hussein took home the crowns.

Food served at the dance consisted of light and easy snacks. Cookies, macaroons, and Chex Mix were available for guests, along with beverages including sparkling cider (served in fancy plastic champagne glasses to follow the theme) and water.

Other than dancing to the bumping music, there was a variety of other activities an attendee could participate in. Inside the building was a beautiful photo backdrop and a popular spinning slo-mo video maker to do with friends. Outside, there were firepits for s’mores and headphones for a silent disco, along with chairs to sit and enjoy the nice 80- degree weather.  The flashing lights and red carpet fit the theme perfectly and staff members made sure students had a fun and safe night.

The venue, Castaway Portland, located just outside the Pearl District near the Willamette River, has an interesting history. In 1929, it was a warehouse home to the makers of yellow strand rope used in the original Portland StreetCar. In 2014, the building had a renovation, restoring it to its original beauty. Today, it serves as one of Portland’s most-awarded wedding and event venues.
