Recently, David Douglas School District voted to pass a new bond which ensures further improvements and developments for many schools in the district, including the high school. It was passed overwhelmingly with more than half the votes, which speaks positively for the community’s hope and partnership to make sure schools reach their full potential.

The $140 million bond will not only repair several buildings across the district, it will improve security for schools that have always been held in high risk, as gun control laws are still under much scrutiny and debate in the U.S.

It gets better. The bond includes plans for a specialized high school career center which will specialize in technical and science education. This will further opportunities for students who want to explore various technical fields in order to prepare for the future.

It’s incredibly heartwarming to think that the community is willing to approve tax funds and assistance in order to make sure this future for kids in their community is possible. It will allow for students to foster their creativity and gain an even wider perspective of their future.

Taxed property would be assessed up to 8 cents per $1,000 of assessed value over 33 years. Therefore, the average homeowner of a home assessed at $250,00 would owe around $220 a year. This is a substantial amount of money given to DDSD schools, providing hope for our school system and our immediate community.
