Winter JV cheer tryouts are on the horizon. Interested male and female students should go and get those pom-poms and be ready to bust a move.

This cheer season, November to the end of February. Varsity Cheer coach Mikyla Pruett and JV Cheer coach Brittany Demars are hosting tryouts on Nov. 1-2 after school from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tryouts are open to freshmen through juniors who are on track to graduate and want to improve their skills or try something new.

The obligations to be able to join are to sign up with the tryouts google form: (here), have an athletic portal account (video of how to create one here), and have a recent physical on file. It is not required to have any prior cheer experiences or be able to tumble. Just bring a positive attitude and make sure to work hard.

Athlete fees for cheer involve paying the school fee of $65 to undertake the sport and a non-refundable deposit of $50. Overall being a new participant in JV cheer can cost up to $500 to $600 for uniform, gear, and competition, however, there are fundraisers and an ability to stretch out the payment throughout the year.

The first day of tryouts contains learning choreography and trying different aspects of cheerleading, the next day consists of performing the choreography that was learned and showing off different stunts.  After tryouts there is a mandatory parent meeting and uniform fitting. There is a commitment of attending 2-3 practices a week and attending games as well as competitions.

“We look forward to seeing you on night one of our tryouts on Nov. 1,” said Pruett.
