Girls' swim team finishes 8-0, boys finish 7-1

The Scots' swim team came splashing in with an overall successful season, the girls recording a flawless 8-0 record, winning the Duel Meet Title and the District Title, the boys recording a 7-1 record, placing 2nd at Districts, beaten only by Nelson, then placing 12th at State. 

There were six state boys qualifiers, with relay team and solo event placements. State qualifiers included freshman Austin Pham, sophomore Issac Campbell, junior Bao Voung, and seniors Kian Pease, Andy Tan, and Kahon Schmidt. The relay team consisting of Pease, Voung, Campbell, and Tan placed 5th in state and Voung placed 6th in the 100 breaststroke, the fourth fastest swimmer in Douglas history, with a final time of 58.88. 

On the girls side, there were five State qualifiers, including freshman Ja’lan Abdullah, senior Luna Lippert, and sophomores Elliot Swanson, Alyssa Siripatrapa, and Kim Nguyen. 

The boys took second at the District Championships, with a final score of 407, beaten only by Nelson at 457. The first boys event was the 200 Medley Relay. Nelson took first with a time of 1:33.95.  David Douglas took second, with senior Pease, Tan, Schmidt, and Campbell coming in with a time of 1:41.29.  Barlow took third with a time of 1:47.42. 

Next was the 200 Freestyle. Nelson took first with a time of 1:41.85. Campbell took second and Pease took third, with times of 1:52.00 and 1:56.69, respectively. Freshman Austin Pham came third in the 50 Free with a time of 22.68, with Nelson and Clackamas taking first and second respectively, with times of 21.63, and 22.2. 

In the 100 Fly, Campbell took third with a time of 54.97. Nelson took first with a time of 53.61, and Clackamas second with a time of 54.86.  In the 100 Free, Voung took second and Pham third, their final times 48.97 and 50.66, respectively. Nelson took first with a  time of 45.87.  In the next two events, the 500 and 200 Free Relay, Douglas did not place. 

In the 100 Backstroke, Pease placed second with a time of 55.38, and Nelson took first and Clackamas third, their final times 49.62 and 56.03, respectively. In the 100 Breastroke, Nelson took first with a time of 57.60. Voung took second with a time of 58.80, and Tan took third with a time of 1:01.66. 

In the final event, the 400 Free Relay, Nelson took first with a time of 3:18.76. Campbell, Pham, Pease, and Vuong took second with time of 3:20.96. Barlow took third with a time of 3:36.64. 

The girls took 1st at Districts with a final score of 410. In the first event, the 200 Yard Free, Barlow came first, Nelson second, and sophomore Elliott Hannah their times third with a time of 2:05.33. In the 200 IM, Barlow came first with a time of 2:14.59.  Sophomore Alyssa Siripatrapa came second with a time of 2:23.90, and Sandy came third with a time of 2:32.73. 

In the 50 Free, Clackamas placed first and second with final times of 23.77 of 25.53. Sophomore Kim Nguyen placed third with a time of 25.57. In the 100 Fly, Nelson came first with a time of 58.60. Barlow came in second with a time of 1:00.40, and Lippert came in third with a time of 1:00.89. 

In the 200 Free Relay, Clackamas finished first with a time of 1:44.25.  Sophomore Elliot Swanson, freshmen Ja’lan Abdullah, Alyssa Siripatrapa, and Kim Nguyen came in second with a time of 1:44.77, and third went to Barlow with a time of 1:55.46. 

In the 100 Breastroke, first went to Nelson with a time of 1:07.24.  Second went to Nguyen with a time of 1:11.37,  and third went to Clackamas with a time of 1:11.61. 

In the final event, the 400 Free Relay, first went to Barlow, second to Swanson, Lippert, Siripatrapa, and Nguyen, and third went to Nelson, their times 3:49.48, 3:50.13, and 3:54.83, respectively.

“This year was a super successful season because the kids trusted the process and competed daily," said coach Jim Bowe.
