Business teacher Billy Goldsberry is the new head wrestling coach, as of Nov. 12.

Goldsberry is a former college wrestler, competing four years of college wrestling at Clackamas Community College and Notre Dame College of Ohio where he was a national qualifier.

After taking 7th place at the University Nationals tournament in 2011, a, he earned the All American status in Greco-Roman, a wrestling style involving all upper body techniques.

In addition to wrestling, Goldsberry has prior experience working in business and hopes to use his knowledge to help prepare students for life after school and in the workforce. He came to the high school to complete his student teaching experience in the business department as student teacher. He was later hired to substitute for Entrepreneur teacher Cole Samuel and has been teaching his classes of Intro To Business, Marketing I, and Entrepreneurship.

“Both [business and wrestling] require you to constantly adjust to change and different challenges,” said Goldsberry. “If you aren’t adaptable, then you won’t make it very far in either business or wrestling.”

As head coach, Goldsberry’s said his favorite part is watching young student athletes accomplishing what they didn’t think was possible. He is trying to create a program that encourages student athletes to improve in all life aspects while achieving their wrestling success in a growthpromoting atmosphere.

“Billy brings tremendous energy and commitment to the programs,” said Athletic Director Brad Joy. “We are very excited to have coach Goldsberry as the head coach and look forward to the continued success of the David Douglas wrestling program.”
