Several schools in the district contributed to raise $20,000 for this year's Scot's Angel, six-year-old Wesley Strobel. Strobel, who has been battling High Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia since late October of 2021.

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow. The word “acute” signifies how rapidly the cancer progresses and creates immature blood cells. Strobel is currently undergoing a three year treatment plan through Doernbechers Children’s hospital which is Oregon's top children’s hospital. To help alleviate financial burden put on the family, David Douglas is helping by accepting donations from student’s advisories and initiating raffles amongst the school. Students or David Douglas community members can also donate to the family online on the Scot's Angel website.

Prizes for raffle participants include Bath and Body Works candles, Target gift cards, pizzas, and more. In total, the school has managed to raise over $3,700. Staff has also been keeping track of advisory donations and will give the highest earning advisory each a free drink from Dee’s Corner Cafe, the student run cafe located in the north building. The advisory with the highest earning so far is unknown, but the numbers will be added up shortly after the raffle concludes.

The Scot's Angel program has been raising money for children and their families in need of financial support for 16 years. In total, the program has raised over $150,000 from the David Douglas student body and community. Last year, our Scot's Angel was six-year-old Sami Abdallah. The high school has raised a total of $16,000 for Abdallah and surprised his family with a parade in the David Douglas breezeway. The parade included the band, cheerleaders, and supportive students and staff members. Not only does the high school lift financial burdens, but it also lifts the spirits of the family and the angel by showing their support and hope for the patient. 100% of proceeds are directly donated to the Scot's Angel families.
