The Jazz Ensemble ll won a well deserved first place trophy at the Mt. Hood  Jazz Conference for the second year in a row.

The Ensemble's high score of 1st place will guide them straight into the State championships where they will compete for the title of state champs amongst other schools. The competition took place at Sandy High School on Saturday, Dec. 10. Several soloists from the ensemble were awarded with an Outstanding Soloist certificate.

The soloists that were selected from the Jazz ll ensemble were Andres Pinzon, David Henock, Finn Trout, Isaac Hart, Jonah Goldberg, Kahon Schmidt, Simon Pinger, and Tyler Lamar.

“Winning first at League feels great," said senior Jazz II member Jonah Goldberg. "It’s been such an honor working with a group as outstanding as Jazz ll over the last few years and competing against all the other bands. I’m going to miss performing with everyone, but I’m looking forward to our next competition.”

Jazz II performed Flight to Nassau , Groovin’ Hard, Black Butterfly, and Topsy. Flight to Nassau is an incredibly fast-paced and intricate song, which makes it highly impressive for these students to play so flawlessly.

These songs were also showcased at their annual Jazz Night’ on Dec. 1. Jazz Night’ took place at the Howard Performing Arts Center and also included a performance by the Jazz l Ensemble. The bands played well and as usual, made the audience full of friends and family proud. The Jazz Bands have a reputation for being a top-tier band, and this year, they seem to be proving it right.
