The yearly Night with the Scots, Nov. 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., flooded the north gym with the sounds of joy for the upcoming basketball season.

As hot and fresh pizzas were given out to the loudest fans. Night with the Scots is a time for students to meet the varsity boys and girls basketball teams. Boys and girls team members made a grand opening when they ran through the entrance and threw their jersies into the crowd.

First, the girls’ team introduced themselves then they played scrimmage games. After their game was finished the boys team did the same. Cheer then performed, rallying the crowd and encouraging the athletes.

After the scrimmage, the Tams dance team performed a hip hop routrine. Raffle drawings took place throughout the night. Guests were given tickets before entering for a drawing for prizes, such as free Papa Murphy’s pizza every month for a year, and standard prizes like gift cards, Scots clothing, and Scots mugs. After the dance team performance, a game of musical chairs was played between the athletes and volunteers. Once the winner was announced the next event was quickly set up, a 3-point shootout and a dunk competition between the girls and boys. The boys put up a show for their contest as two of the players dressed up as scientists and set up a table with drinks. They called over the players to try out their jumping “potions,” vision “potions” to assist them in dunking and making those 3 pointers. After that, a staff knockout game was held.

“It’s a good time to celebrate boys and girls basketball and meet the players,” said Athletic Director Brad Joy.  “It’s a fun atmosphere with music, games, raffle, drawing, in a less formal way.”
