The 2022 holiday door decorating competition winners were Whitney Soule in the south and Katie Patterson and Janene Rainey in the north.
The annual competition has been a David Douglas tradition for over ten years with a coveted holiday door trophy prize that is displayed in the winning teacher's room. The trophy is passed along to the next winner each year. Teachers decorate and design their classroom doors to celebrate the festive season. The contest began in December and students were the judges. Over 900 votes were counted, and the north and south winners were announced on Dec. 16.
In the north, Activities Director Kelsey Stiff's door won third place, the runner up was Amanda Burns, and Patterson and Rainey held the first place title with 236 votes. Their door was accessorized with poinsettias and stars, with a quote above the door saying, "Any gift is beautiful because it is given." In the south, third place was taken by Nate McGory's bathroom stall door, Matthew Kramer was second place, and Soule's Post Malone door won the competition with 266 votes. Austin Richard Post, famously known as Post Malone, is an American rapper and producer from New York. Soule has been a long-time Post Malone fan courtesy of her husband, enjoying his genre versatility and admirable personality. This was Soules' second year teaching at David Douglas, and she was determined to win.
"I recently had front-row tickets to his show at the Moda center," said Soule. "He talked to me and gave me a high five. He is so nice and always talks with his fans."
