The David Douglas High School boys golf team competed at the Mt.Hood Conference Golf District Meet, alongside other schools in the conference on Monday, May 1.

The fellow competitors at the meet were similar to those who compete at a regular meet, including Barlow, Central Catholic, Clackamas, David Douglas, Gresham, Nelson, Reynolds, Sandy.

The David Douglas boys golf team finished 4th in the region, only two strokes behind Lakeridge. Tigard and West Linn finished first and second, qualifying them for state.

Congratulations were sent to Connor Nguyen for qualifying for the OSAA State Championships on… at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Eugene, Oregon.

The home course for the Scots has been Glendoveer Golf Course on Glisan, consisting of the regular 18-hole course, along with indoor tennis courts and Von Ebert Brewing.

“I think having good practice habits but then also creating good team chemistry is the strategy.” said coach Tyler Satterthwaite.

Golf is a mental sport. It takes skill and focus but most importantly a positive mindset. Many players overthink their mistakes and underestimate their abilities. Players are constantly fighting with unpredictable weather, hours on the course, and their own mental game. It’s difficult to let all the bad things go and focus on the good, but that’s part of the game and the challenges that come with it. Coach Satterthwaite’s advice is to learn but forget your mistakes. What’s in the past is in the past and focus on your present game.

The biggest challenge for the season has been, “Finding out how to unlock a relaxed and confident mindset with the golfers, where they are competitive but not in their own heads,” said coach Satterthwaite.
