The Windsor Locks Public Schools offer a range of evaluation services to students to help determine if a need for special education and/or service is indicated. These services include evaluations in the area of speech and language development, learning disabilities, psychological functioning, individual reading and intellectual capacities. Evaluation services performed by the school system/CSSC or by an agency or professional consultant at the request of the school system are carried out without charge to parents.
In certain situations, parents may want an evaluation done outside the school system, such evaluation(s) in addition to those performed by or for the Windsor Locks Public Schools/Cooperative Special Services Center. Parents of guardians may have such evaluations performed outside the system at their own discretion and at their own expense.
When the school system is requested to pay for an outside evaluation, the request for the evaluation must be addressed to the PPT. Consideration will be given the request by the PPT with the following conditions met and procedures followed:
Outside evaluation will be considered by the PPT only when there are clearly stated questions related to the findings of the internal evaluation(s).
The PPT with the parents participating will frame specific consultative questions to be submitted to the outside evaluator and the outside evaluator must address these questions specifically.
Areas of evaluation are to be agreed upon between the school system and the parents prior to the selection of an outside evaluator.
Pre-evaluation communications with the outside evaluator will include input from the school system and parent(s).
The student’s entire record will be available to the outside evaluator.
The report(s) of the outside evaluator will be forwarded to the school system for review by the PPT.
The results of the outside evaluation are shared by the PPT participants in order to help the participants make recommendations for educational planning.
