For children requiring special education, it is recommended that the child’s Individualized Education Plan expressly describe the accommodations, by transportation or otherwise, for the child. For example, in an effort to place the child in the least restrictive environment, the Board and the parent may agree to have the child walk to the bus stop and ride the regular school bus. Regulations concerning children requiring special education shall include the following provisions for transportation service:
a. The Windsor Locks Board of Education provides as a related service, safe and
appropriate transportation as required to implement the education program for each
child requiring special education. 10-76d-19
b. The transportation contractor shall use school buses and motor vehicles to transport
special education students that comply with the regulations governing the inspection,
registration, operation and maintenance of school buses and the licensing of the
operators of such vehicles. 14-275c-26 to 14-275c-35
c. Travel time shall not exceed one hour each way to and from a special education facility
except with written parental consent to a longer travel time and consent of the State
Board of Education. 10-76d-19(a)
d. Transportation shall be provided to and from but not beyond the curb of the residence
of the special education child, unless otherwise agreed upon at a PPT or by the Director
of Special Services and the parent or guardian of the child. PA-82-311
e. If parents of a special education child are requested to provide transportation to a special
education facility, parents shall be reimbursed for the cost of such transportation. 10-
