An active community representation in vocational program planning insures responsiveness to the occupational needs and conditions of areas being served. The extent to which advisory council or committees are involved in planning will directly influence the effectiveness of vocational education services. The Windsor Locks Board of Education endorses and supports the concept and practice of a vocational education advisory council at Windsor Locks High School.
The advisory council shall be comprised of representatives of the general public including at least one representative from each of the following: business, industry, and labor. The council shall have an appropriate representation of both sexes and the racial and ethnic composition in the area served. The Windsor Locks Schools shall have staff members on the council who shall represent the broad range of students served by the school, academic, vocational, handicapped and disadvantaged.
Activities of the advisory council shall include the following:
a. plan and evaluate vocational education
b. publicize and promote vocational education in the community
c. develop employment opportunities for vocational students.
The Superintendent shall appoint a chairman of the council on behalf of the schools. The chairman’s responsibility is to implement and coordinate the council activities on behalf of the vocational education program.
