The Windsor Locks Board of Education complies with state and federal regulations concerning the Planning and Placement team and the Individualized Education Program process.

“Planning and Placement Team” means a group of certified and/or licensed professionals, who represent each of the teaching, administrative and pupil personnel staffs and who participate equally in the decision making process to determine the specific educational needs of the child and develop an individualized educational program for the child. These shall be persons knowledgeable in the areas necessary to determine and review the appropriate educational program for an exceptional child.

“Individualized Education Program” means a separate written plan for each child which shall be developed by a planning and placement team to meet the needs of each child requiring special education and related services. An individualized education program is required for all handicapped students for whom special education programs and related services are provided. This includes students who are served by agencies other than the school district.

The Windsor Locks Schools shall establish a sufficient number of Planning and Placement Team meetings (P.P.T.) to provide that each child requiring special education and related services will receive the special education or related services necessary to meet his or her needs. The schools shall establish procedures for developing, implementing, reviewing, maintaining and evaluating and Individualized Education Program (I.E.P.) for each child requiring special education. The schools provide that one or both of the child’s parents or guardians are afforded the opportunity to participate in each P.P.T meeting and to develop the child’s I.E.P.
