The Windsor Locks Public Schools provides that each child who has been referred and who may require special education and related services shall be evaluated in order to determine whether special education is required. “Evaluation” means a process whereby certified and/or licensed professionals identify and assess the specific educational strengths and weaknesses of the child for the purpose of determining educational recommendations.

Each child receiving special education and related services shall be re-evaluated at least once every three years. The rationale for the three-year re-evaluation involves at least the following considerations:

1. whether the child continues to be eligible for special education;

2. whether the present placement continues to be appropriate; and

3. whether there is a need for more thorough assessment.

In addition, a re-evaluation shall be conducted upon request of the parents or personnel working with the child, provided the child’s educational performance indicates the need for a re-evaluation.
