The Windsor Locks Public Schools shall administer standardized testing programs to organize effective instruction, assess school programs, develop and improve curriculum, effect individual student educational placement, and assist students in making educational, vocational, and personal decisions.
The types of group standardized tests administered by the Windsor Locks Public Schools include readiness assessment, academic assessment and achievement, aptitudes and interests.
Standardized test scores are used as only one of a number of indicators for review of the student’s record with regard to retention or promotion. In advising or assisting a student, information drawn from standardized tests should be used in conjunction with all other information known about the student.
The building administrator shall make provisions for reporting the results of student tests and their interpretation to parents and guardians, and to students when appropriate. Standard procedures for the issuance of reports by elementary schools shall be employed.
Standardized testing programs shall be subject to annual review as to their appropriateness and administration. A schedule for the administration of standardized tests shall be issued at the beginning of each school year, with consistency from year to year regarding schedules at various grade levels.
No test shall be used purposely to elicit the personal beliefs or practices of a student or his/her parents as to sex, race or religion.
Results on standardized tests shall be part of the student’s school record. Test records shall be kept in such manner that a student’s growth and progress in his or her school subjects can be monitored by staff. Individual student test data is considered confidential data.
Individual tests may be administered to students referred for special instruction or services, with permission of the parents or guardians.
